Canon is a popular name for cameras and other types of imaging devices. This company also manufactures a wide range of printers. You can easily configure your Canon printer to any device and take the printouts immediately. These devices are very reliable and provide quality printouts. But sometimes, the user may get some errors while using the printer. One common error in Canon printers is paper jams. New printers don’t get paper jams often. But if you have an old printer then you may get paper jam issues a lot.

Common causes behind the paper jam

  1. The printer rollers are not working properly
  2. Pages are not aligned in the paper tray
  3. Invalid Canon printer settings
  4. Your printer met an error while printing
  5. Junk inside the printer
  6. You have loaded pages of different sizes
  7. The printer can’t read the command correctly

Resolving Canon printer paper jam error

Check the printer roller

If your printer is showing paper jam then check for the rollers. Printer rollers roll out the paper from the input tray to the printer. Your device may get an error when the rollers are not working correctly. Go to the printer and check the ends. If the rollers are not working properly then fix them. After fixing the rollers, your printer won’t show a paper jam error.

Check the alignment

If you are getting paper jams often then check the page alignment in your input tray. When the alignment is not correct, pages are stuck inside the printer. The roller draws the pages and the printer gets paper jam. To fix the paper jam issues, you should align all the pages in the input tray correctly. Paper jams are more common in DMPs. Whenever your printer gets a paper jam, cut the sheet from the rim immediately. Now remove the stuck paper from the printer. Again go to the printer and align the sheets. Now give a print command and take your printouts.

Inspect the printer settings

You may get paper jam problems when your printer settings are invalid. Sometimes, the user makes invalid changes on the printer device. Due to this, your printer starts showing certain errors. To fix the errors, you must undo the settings. Go to the printer and revert all the recent changes to the settings. If you can’t remember the original settings then reset the printer. How to reset Canon printer? Go to the printer Menu and tap on Settings. Now navigate to Reset and navigate to the Reset All option. Select the confirm button and your Canon printer will reset to factory settings. Now go to the printer; configure it to your PC and take the printouts.

Clean the printer

You will get paper jams on your device when some junk is stuck inside the printer. To fix this, you have to remove the junk such as paper chunks. Go to the Canon printer and shut it down. Now remove the cartridges and other parts. If you see any paper between rollers or other areas, remove it. Use a lint-free cloth and remove all the dust. Now reinstall the cartridges on the printer and take your printouts.

Use a printer troubleshooter

Paper jam mainly appears when paper chunks are stuck inside the printer. But sometimes, you may get the error when some printer files are not working correctly. Go to your printer and check the connected PC. On PC, go to Update and Security. Look for the troubleshooter and hit on Additional. Select the Printer and run the tool. This tool will start searching and fixing the corrupted printer files. After running the tool, try to take a printout.

Use pages of the same sizes

Some Canon printers offer printing services in various sizes. You can easily take printouts on an A4 sheet or a small piece of paper. But adding pages of different sizes altogether can get the error. Sometimes the printer gets the wrong size page and faces errors. You should add pages of the same size at a time. If you want to take a printout of a different size, empty the input tray and now insert a new page. It will prevent any errors. Insert pages with correct sizes and now try to take your printouts.

Check for the printer driver

Many times, your printer faces errors when it can’t read the print command correctly. This error appears when your printer is unable to read the commands. You need a printer driver on the PC to communicate with the printer. If you are getting the error then go to the connected PC and check the drivers’ folder. Check for the Canon printer driver. If you have the driver then check the model. Sometimes the user installs the wrong driver mistakenly. Every printer model has a different driver. Check your printer model and install the correct driver. Now reconnect the printer to your PC and check for paper jam issues.
