It's All Personal

A note on the life and work

Self Portrait, 2024

I’ve attempted to submit a piece titled ‘Scenes from the City of Angels” several times with acknowledgments toward my revisal's, which were made after the Vocal mods flagged my work as “AI generated or Spam” and for the life of me, I can't figure out where their fucking issue is. If they believe my work is something ChatGTP provided I don’t know whether I should be flattered or if my writing is robotic. There is no way an AI can string together the kind of eloquence admixed with vulgarity and unique idioms my compositions feature. Go fuck yourself if you think so.

The only thing I can think of is I used too many photographs. Should that be the case then the concept behind that piece and others that would've followed are defeated because the photos are a staple to the narrative. Apparently I need to be cautious mixing my prose and photography.

I am a journalist, a poet, photographer, videographer, music and film enthusiast, an explorer of mind and reality, welding student and much more.

I can write fiction but I prefer to keep the first perspective and lay out my life and interests. I’m not a man with answer to anything nor am I a wandering philosopher lost in trivialities. I am an individual with eccentric tastes and wisdom. My only aim is to live well enough to write about it and write well enough to live on it.

My journey began December 6, 1987 in Los Angeles, California, also known as the City of Angels, or L.A. It’s the second most populated city in the United States and home to The Lakers basketball team, Hollyweird, Venice Beach and the largest port of call for commerce, where you’ll find the harbor town of San Pedro, the place of my birth.

Since my arrival and throughout my development as an artist, the wonder and the strangeness has yet to stagger. There is plenty to experience and find noteworthy in this vast realm of existence. Most of the time you have to pay to play and work provides that payment. I’ve been a maintenance man mopping the balconies on the Executive level at Dodger Stadium, worked my way up to a utility in a fine dining restaurant, wrote briefly for a local magazine covering art and entertainment, shot field photographs for a graphic designer on multiple assignments, was an assistant manager for a Dominos pizza joint, and I’m now currently a welding student.

I need to get back on the streets. Years ago I would hop on the train and ride to downtown for shits and giggles. While I’m comfortable accepting and understanding the reality of what’s out there in the world it still gets to me at times, making it best to step away for a moment.

I’ve written lots of poetry which I feature on another Vocal account. Some might enjoy both stanza and prose, but I feel they should be separated out of consideration for my audience.

I was a contributor to Medium for a very long time, only that platform has made it difficult for me to receive compensation, let alone reach an audience outside its dominion. At least Vocal still pays me per read and doesn’t limit who can discover my material. A platform like this also helps get more creative with contributing to this business of words. Hopefully I can gain some support.

I'd like to reflect while still keeping a forward motion. The only thing that stay's the same is change as we all know, and every end is a new beginning as I was reminded of recently.

How about we end this and get on with the show, huh?
