Is "More Content" A Lie?
The Marketing Flaw That Most Businesses Fail To Understand

I was reading an article from someone who fancies themselves as an online writer...
And they were talking about the idea that has spread among different circles about "more"...
Specifically, the idea of more content.
What they said...
Was that "more content" does not work.
Now, I was curious as to what they meant when they said this...
Because something that I have learned when it comes to claims on the internet...
Is that when two people claim to have done the same thing...
They have rarely actually done the same thing.
So, I looked at what they meant.
They first said that they had written over 1,000 pieces of content.
I had a point of comparison because this article will be article number 1,116 since January 1, 2023.
But where they were claiming to have gotten no results...
I have gotten a lot of results....
Including over 160 awards and nominations for my work, most of which I can attribute to writing "more" articles.
So, was I just lucky?
Or was there something else missing?
Hint...
It is the latter.
The next point of comparison was the timeframe.
They had written over 1,000 pieces of content over 10 years...
But I have written 1,116 articles in 1,116 days...
Or a little over 3 years straight.
This is the first point of separation...
Both of us had written a similar total number of pieces of content...
But the timeframe was completely different.
I did it in less than a third of the time.
Now, does this answer our question?
Does "more content" depend on the frequency, and the higher the frequency, the better your success?
Just be the person who does the most, and you will win?
Be wary...
There is something that is known as Survivorship Bias...
Where we believe, incorrectly, that whoever has succeeded has the key to success...
While ignoring examples of individuals who have failed, doing the same thing.
Have there been examples of individuals who have failed while producing as much as me, and perhaps even more than me?
Absolutely, there are.
Many examples of people who have exhausted themselves into Burnout trying to keep up with an unforgiving algorithm that they could never satisfy.
Does that mean that the "more content" is a game of luck?
Well, there is one more point of comparison.
He stated that he was using a specific method...
That is extremely common...
Spray and Pray.
Now, they admitted that it was this which was their largest problem...
And I would agree with that.
The idea behind Spray and Pray is that if you do enough of anything...
That eventually you will have success...
So you "spray" as much of your marketing out into the world as you can...
And "pray" that eventually you will get enough of the success you hope for.
There are two problems with this method, though.
The quality of what you put out into the world is the quality of what you will receive.
So if your content and marketing are all low-quality...
You will get some results...
But they will all be low-quality results...
Not nearly worth the effort involved to get those results.
The second problem is a false belief that comes with this type of marketing.
Many who do this believe...
That if you continue to do more reps...
That you will grow in the process.
This is simply not true.
Or...
You will "grow"...
But not in the way that you had hoped.
We see the same thing happen with people who work out.
If you work out a lot...
Certain muscles will grow and get used...
But if you are not focusing on the right muscles, then you can easily create muscle imbalances...
And those imbalances usually lead to strains, breaks, tears, and more.
Not all "growth" is positive and helpful...
And this is true with Spray and Pray methods.
You'll grow...
But it will be like how weeds grow in a garden that is not managed well.
When you do Spray and Pray methods...
You usually get better at doing poor quality things...
And you simply begin to multiply that which is low quality.
This causes others to view the business as a low-quality business...
Which is only able to get low-quality clients...
And scare away the types of clients you need to thrive...
That will cause the business to struggle to remain relevant.
This is really at the center of most businesses' challenges.
They produce low-quality material...
And when they try to do "more" of that low-quality...
It actually backfires...
Especially when you push so hard that you go into Burnout.
But...
This is what was missed by the person whose work I was reading earlier...
If you focus on creating quality work...
And are intentional about continually improving the quality of your work...
"Then" you pursue creating "more content"...
That is where the "more content" method begins to work wonders.
When you begin to produce high-quality material...
Especially in a landscape that is filled with...
Get-rich-quick schemes...
AI Slop...
And desperation...
The content begins to look like a beacon of light amidst a landscape of decay.
The more that you create of that...
The more you will become noticed...
And the more that the algorithms begin to work for you...
To an extent.
But there is one more thing to keep in mind as a business...
No algorithm is your friend.
At the end of the day...
There is not a single platform that I am aware of...
Whose sole focus is you.
The vast majority of platforms that have algorithms have one singular focus...
Their own success.
Of the few who actually do care about you and what you create...
Most can be bought for the right price...
And I have watched business after business...
Dedicate themselves to an algorithm...
Only to be stabbed in the back by that algorithm.
If your success is dependent on an algorithm...
Then eventually you will fail.
You need to have your success "use" the algorithms that exist...
But not "rely" on them for success...
Especially not any "singular" algorithm.
The best option that you have available to you...
Is to "use" an algorithm...
Then figure out how to gain control of your own audience so that you never need to rely on the algorithms for your success.
