Beautiful Colombia: Journeys and Reflections by Alex Rozwadowski
A personal journey through Colombia’s iconic cities, where every road leads to self-discovery

Travel has always been more than just visiting new places to me—it’s an awakening of the adventurous spirit, a chance to rethink what truly matters.
I had the incredible opportunity to explore Colombia, a country that overflows with culture, history, and a vibrant pulse.
I’m Alex Rozwadowski, and I’m taking you on a tour around the beautiful country of Colombia.
Cartagena de Indias: History, Color, and Life by the Sea
Cartagena de Indias, a city that feels like a timeless canvas painted with bright colors and rich history. Walking through the walled city, I was enchanted by the blend of colonial architecture, bustling markets, and the gentle, salty air of the Caribbean Sea. Cartagena is an experience that really transports you to another era.
I spent hours wandering narrow cobblestone streets, every corner offering a new story or a breathtaking view of the harbor. This city taught me that history isn’t confined to textbooks; it’s alive in the spirit of its people and the rhythm of its daily life.
For me, this was a refreshing reminder that our past shapes us, and by understanding it, we can better appreciate the present and imagine a future full of potential.
Armenia: A Heartbeat of Culture and Nature
Armenia stands at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, where coffee culture and scenic landscapes converge in a way that’s both soothing and invigorating.
The city is the heart of Colombia’s coffee region—a place where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the natural beauty of rolling hills and lush greenery.
I found myself sitting in a local café, chatting with residents who shared their passion for coffee and life. Their stories were a testament to the power of community and the deep-rooted traditions that define a culture.
It was in Armenia that I truly felt the pulse of Colombia: a blend of hard work, warmth, and an unwavering connection to the land. The vibrant conversations made it clear that every region, every city, has its own unique charm and history that is worth exploring and understanding.
Cali: Rhythm, Energy, and a Well-Maintained Journey
One of the most memorable parts of my trip was the drive from Armenia to Cali, and I must say, the roads were very well kept. The journey was as exhilarating as it was smooth, allowing me to fully embrace the shifting landscapes and the excitement that comes with travel.
Cali, known as the Salsa Capital of the World, hit me with a burst of energy as soon as I arrived.

Cali is a city of movement, where dance and music are woven into everyday life. The rhythm of the streets, the pulsating nightlife, and the genuine friendliness of its people all come together to create an atmosphere that’s both electric and welcoming.
It reminded me that travel isn’t just about where you go, but about how deeply you immerse yourself in the local culture. In Cali, I let go of my usual reservations and allowed the music and laughter to guide my evening—it was a moment of pure, unfiltered joy.
A Journey of Self-Discovery and Mindset
Travel has a way of awakening an adventurous spirit within us. On this trip, it wasn’t just about the cities or the scenic drives; it was also about the deeper reflections that came along with every new experience. I was struck by a simple yet profound truth, and talked about it in the video I shared here:
“Your mindset is your core, and that's really going to determine how far you've gone in life. How do you get a great mindset? And the answer is: you have to discover what your purpose is. A purpose is usually a feeling you generate for other people. It's in your soul.”
These thoughts were going over my head as I explored Colombia, a country that has the power to spark creativity and introspection. Every new city, every conversation with locals, and every drive along Colombia's well-maintained highways contributed to a gradual yet profound inner journey.
It reminded me that our mindset is not static—it’s something that we can nurture and refine with every adventure.
The Gift of Multilingualism and Cultural Immersion
One of the things I cherish most about travel is the ability to connect with diverse cultures through language. As someone who speaks English, Portuguese, and Spanish, I’ve experienced the profound benefits of being able to communicate in different tongues.
My language skills have enriched my travels and also helped me forge deeper connections with the community from various backgrounds back at home.
Having grown up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I was immersed in a vibrant culture from an early age. Later in life, working as an analyst in Switzerland broadened my horizons even further, teaching me the value of precision and the beauty of diverse perspectives.
In Colombia, speaking Spanish allowed me to engage more naturally with locals, understand their stories, and appreciate the cultural nuances that might have been lost in translation.
It’s these moments of genuine connection—conversations in a friendly café in Armenia, laughter shared with street vendors in Cartagena, and the communal energy in Cali—that remind me how language opens doors to new worlds.
Lessons Learned on the Road
Traveling isn’t just about collecting stamps in your passport; it’s about collecting experiences that shape who you are.
Throughout my journey in Colombia, I learned that embracing the unknown can lead to personal growth and fulfillment. The landscapes, the people, and the culture all offered unique lessons in resilience, passion, and the importance of staying open to new experiences.
For me, each road taken—whether it was the scenic drive from Armenia to Cali or the winding alleys of Cartagena—served as a metaphor for life. The smooth, well-kept roads reminded me that with preparation and care, the journey can be just as fulfilling as the destination itself.
And the unpredictable, vibrant streets of Cali taught me that sometimes, spontaneity and a willingness to embrace the moment are what lead to the most memorable experiences.
Embrace the Adventure, Embrace Yourself
As I reflect on my travels, I am reminded that the world is full of wonders waiting to be discovered. Our journeys shape us, challenge us, and ultimately help us grow.
Whether you're exploring a historic city, driving along pristine roads, or simply engaging in deep conversation with a local, each experience is a chance to learn more about yourself and the world around you.
Traveling awakens an adventurous spirit that pushes us to think deeper about our lives, our goals, and our purpose. It drives home the idea that the right mindset is the foundation of every successful journey.
So, as you plan your next adventure—whether it’s a visit to Colombia or another part of the world—remember to keep your mind open, embrace the unexpected, and let the experience transform you. Keep the same attitude at home, and it will allow you to connect with the community on a more meaningful level.
Travel. Experience. Grow.
My hope is to inspire you to not only travel more but also to travel differently. Look beyond the destination and see every journey as an opportunity for growth.
Let the rhythm of a new city, the warmth of its people, and the beauty of its culture remind you of what’s truly important in life. Remember, each step you take is a step toward discovering your purpose, enriching your spirit, and shaping your future.
Thank you for joining me on this reflective journey through Colombia. May your adventures, too, lead you to unexpected discoveries and a deeper understanding of yourself. Happy travels!
Warm regards,
