Denouement among the lilies. Top Story - September 2021.
February for our first moment. We’re sitting in a dive bar in Camden Town. It smells of stale beer and gomme syrup; the floor coated by a thin veneer of both. Buzzed from cheap cocktails, you’re staring inquisitively at me. “Are you an optimist or a pessimist?” you ask. “Neither, I’m a realist.” I answer. We laugh. Later, a rushed kiss at the bottom of an escalator.

Finding home
Where is home? A question beating through my veins as I lose parts of myself and find others that require hiding. What is home? There’s no google maps for life so there’s no way to know if I’m on a journey or wondering pointlessly. Do I have a destination of security and acceptance? Or must I settle for pockets of time where community and peace are a little stronger for a moment? These pockets of golden light provide hope like photosynthesis. They’re the only reason I have some inkling into what home is, a starting point for investigation.

Square One
There are seven songs that always remind me of the man I love. I noticed today while listening to them that they represent the emotional journey I've been on regarding our 'relationship'. I write relationship in quotes because it's complicated...like all great love stories. I'm being sarcastic- it is not a great love story...it's not even a great love. Whatever hold this man has on me will not be relinquished. I've tried. But I've reached a point in my life where I'm ok with this finally.

First Love
She was 15, and I was 13 which, highlighted the wide maturity gap between us! To most, it was clear that I was clearly out of my league. Yet, I stubbornly refused to acknowledge the obvious. Sheena's favorite phrase was, “I will never date little boys.” Those words always felt like a nuclear weapon heading towards the space between my eyes and still make me quiver as I vividly remember hearing those words more than 50 years ago.
