humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
Little Black Book
Little Black Book There are days when I quietly sit upon this bench gazing at nameless faces as they walk by. Starving for some sanity in the chaos of their random, yet predictable, movement, I watch their feet and their steps, searching for a rhythm or pattern, but I find none.

Bend in the River
Before me a bend in the river, No hint of what lies ahead, Except the sound of rushing water. Meredith finished recording her thought safely in the little black notebook then riffled the pages; the entries in various inks, the handwriting dependent on her mood as she'd written. All those ideas, safe, to be called upon when needed. She closed the notebook and patted its soft, black cover with a sigh.

The Park Bench
Climbing to the top of the playground was particularly special here. A large blue staircase spiraled upward to a green slide. The tall green slide was nearly three stories high. The afternoon sun was bright, and clouds were scarce. A father and little boy made the climb like they did every day. The little boy squealed as he jumped on his father’s lap at the top of the slide. They were both laughing by the time they made it back to the ground. The dad, James, looked over at the park bench longingly. A few years ago, his wife used to sit there and watch her husband and son play for hours. Today however, instead of his wife, a little black book was on the bench.

Why Didn't You Stay?
The question keeps popping up in my mind over and over for multiple people - Why couldn’t you love me enough to stay? I have lost a number of people in my life who claimed to love me for various reasons, and as someone with an anxiety disorder who has not sat well with me and I constantly find myself asking why couldn’t they love me enough to stay in my life.

The Deepest Request
A young and budding journalist writes to a woman of his inspiration a very personal request: Dear Suzie, Or at least I sure hope so. I’ve just returned home to California after a trip to Milan; to the front and then back entry of a bookstore cafe as I searched for what may have looked like some sign of a residential door; window on the second story, or a private parking space outside. The cafe was full of no name journalists looking for some place to put their passion. Myself and the baristas stood alone, before I thanked them for the coffee and checked the back door for what I came for.
