Hands
Hands. The ones I know are mean and rough. Hands that grab and shake and hit. Hands that pull on my tail and ears. It is so cold and dirty where I am. The hands throw things at me that are supposed to be food, but someone else always gets them first. So cold. So hungry. We are so crammed together in here but each one alone.

North Mountain Creature
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years but one night, a candle burned in the window. The forest ranger feverously tried to wrap gauze around her bleeding arm by candlelight. She shook so badly she couldn't hold the scissors to cut the gauze.

Running Away
I ran away from my first marriage. It was easy. After finding out he had been unfaithful, I packed my things and left. My friends congratulated me on being so brave. I told myself I was courageous and deserved better, which was true, but I knew the darker side to that truth. I didn’t try to work things out because it would have been too hard.
