humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
Reflections of Life on Dogwood Lane
The short stretch of street from 25 Dogwood Lane to the shore of Greenwood Lake was witness to both my best and darkest times. Short but steep, the street was made for glorious summer days and tipsy summer nights, when residents crowded the path on their way to and from the beach with family, friends, and lovers.

Hope
“It’s from the before-times.” The man sitting across from her startled her out of her trance, holding a silver chain up near the fire, the night breeze twisting a small heart with a smooth center surrounded by a filigree detail. He had walked up just before sunset, bearing no weapons, and gestured towards to the far side of her fire when they crossed paths somewhere off the old road between the ruins of Charlotte and the small market town of Atlanta. They had been sitting in silence while they ate their separate meals.

Beyond Fear
So, you want to know what I'm affraid of. Fear is an interesting feeling. And it's about self-reliance. We tend to think that it has to do with what others may do to us, or what life will bring in front of us. Too Much, but Not Enough
Some will have an issue with us enjoying anything that is not "for Black people”. In my experience, you’re “too Black” for NonBlack folks but “not Black enough” for Black people. This can be such a chore and damaging to your mental health. Some of us just want to enjoy something without having to think about the color of our skin or deal with attacks from racists. Regardless of our feelings and trying to just live our lives, we still end up being “stuck between a rock and a hard place”.

Fading Light
A hollow silence laid heavy in Fisher’s room as he sat on the end of his bed, feet waving, the only one in the house awake. Mum and Dad in the next room, still and peaceful, Fisher took his vantage in, surveying the surfeit of toys that littered his bedroom floor. Trucks, dolls, cars, trolls; all of his favourite, and all of his unwanted, things. Discarded parts, still and motionless, lay like the parents, surrounding the ones that he still had affection for. Nothing penetrated the stillness and darkness of the early morning like the longing that Fish had for a return to days gone where playing and laughter remained untainted by differences, by doubt, by the smog of something changed. Transition found its way into his young life through a display of brute force that startled and overawed even the adults.

Critical (NO!) Race (Ethnicity?) Theory (My Ass!)
Critical Definition: involving the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue to form a judgment. Race Definition: "Race" refers to physical differences that groups and cultures consider socially significant, while "ethnicity" refers to shared cultures, such as language, ancestry, practices, and beliefs.
