humanity
For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
The 'Priceless' part of PriceLe$$
It is an honor to enter this contest entitled, “We Have a Dream” Steps to fostering kindness and inclusivity in 2022. I am reaching out to ask that you take a minute and read my story and journey to opening my own business. It’s a Social Impact Corporation called, “PriceLe$$ Thrift.” (Priceless) I opened it in Houston, Texas effective June 15th. Here is exactly what I am doing presently to promote kindness, love, inclusivity, and above all a NO JUDGEMENT ZONE.

Men are from Mars, Women from Venus
From the seventies to the nineties there was a flourishing of American self-help manuals: how to strengthen self-esteem, how to understand yourself, how to improve your social performance and relationships with others. There is no lady who hasn’t read “Women Who Love Too Much” by Robin Norwood (in pure seventies awareness style), identifying herself with the pathetic figure hanging on the wire of a telephone that doesn’t ring. We’ve all had at least one look at Wayne Dyer’s “Your Wrong Zones” (1977) or Daniel Goleman’s “Emotional Intelligence”. But there is a text that has beaten all the others and that has remained in the ranking 121 weeks and has sold 50 million copies: “Men are from Mars, Women from Venus”, written in 1993 by John Gray, a psychologist specializing in the study of couple problems.

Food For The Soul
Although I was never homeless for long periods, there were times in the past where I was so swamped with bills that I didn't eat. At the time, I had one dog and two cats and I made sure they ate. Why should they go hungry just because I was the one in debt? I made sure they ate healthy, nutritious meals when I lived off either 2 minute noodles or basic pancakes made with flour, water and curry powder. That was all I could afford for myself.

Unmasking the Real Heroes.
To the real community heroes: kind people everywhere, There’s something different about kind people—they really care. They care about what they are doing and how they make others feel; they just care differently than the rest of the world, and it’s these kinds of people that are the real community heroes.

Bullying: The best thing that ever happen to me!
One out of five students report of being on the receiving end of bullying today. It is so excruciating to know that in the age when an individual is supposed to be at their best productive stage in terms of learning and adapting, some of them go through this daily torture. However, it is important to note that bullying is not restricted to a certain phase of life.

A Seed of Kindness Can Grow in the Harshest Conditions
Kindness grows in the most unexpected places. Years ago, while working in a behavioral health clinic, I was assigned a patient that I will call Sam. He was a challenging guy who didn’t want to attend therapy, so in the beginning, he often canceled or no-showed our appointments.

Whatever Did You Say To Warrant That?
It is black history month. So I will start out "those people" with black people. I want to say, what about "those people," like I am automatically supposed to know what someone means by saying that? I have to admit, my time spent with black people has been limited by where I live. But all I can think of is all of the stereotypes, the news, the crime reports. You know how those people are? Wrong! That is just wrong!
