For better or for worse, relationships reveal the core of the human condition.
Daily Reflections
01/29/2022 Power in Words I like words. That tracks, as I am reasonably good at putting one word after another. As Odysseus told Achilles, “We play with the toys the gods give us”. But more than any of my paltry attempts to make magic with ink, I love that words can change things.

01/31/2022 Taking on the Ego As much as I may exalt those who work in the service industry, and rightly so, I am equally aware of some of the traps and cautionary tales. And there are many. Substance abuse, burnout, depression, and any of a number of physical maladies from stress and repetitive labor. Most of these, I have found can be mitigated with attention to one’s diet and rest schedule. Yet there is a more hidden concern I have been contemplating as of late. The Ego.

The ABC's of Shevet Achim
Each year, more than one million children worldwide are born with some type of heart defect. Many of them die before their first birthday, and thousands more die before reaching adulthood. In the "land of their enemy", these dying children are given a second chance at life.

REGRET
Small flags fluttered at the base of several headstones in the military cemetery. Some of the bouquets placed on the grave markers were bright and vibrant, but others were withered and dying, leaving behind a shower of crumbling, scattered petals. Aside from a bird perched in a nearby tree, and a deer wandering between the neat rows of white granite headstones, I was the only living thing there, a fact that I was grateful for. When I come here to visit friends that I have lost, I prefer to share my thoughts with them alone.

Planetary Patrol to Eradicate Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery
No embellishment needed. In modern slavery and human trafficking slithers the sinister soullessness of breathing putrefaction in all its nauseating retchy-ness. Those traumatic embedded experiences where the stinging never really stops, only becomes blockaded behind cerebral cortex nerve cells 2-4 mm thick.

My Own Valentine: Why We Should Practice Self-Care (and Celebrate Self-Love) in February
I don’t know how it happens for other people, but I remember the specific moment I realized I loved myself. A couple of years ago, I had the worst year of my life. I won’t go into details as that could fill a book of its own. Let’s just say my self-esteem was the lowest it has ever been.
