family
Family unites us; but it's also a challenge. All about fighting to stay together, and loving every moment of it.
The Green Arrow
The Green Arrow (My father was an everyday superhero) Somewhere in a small Arizona town... Hidden in a cronky dimly lit workshop, my dad the superhero wangled his world of motorcycle madness. In this makeshift work room my dad enjoyed an intriguing life away from our home and the fire station, where he spent volunteer days helping and saving lives. It was here that his passion for repairing and building motorcycles took on another world dimension. They weren't just vehicles to him, they became characters in a movie. Each one was bestowed a unique personality through his cartoon sketches. The daring Harley became the Green-Eyed Winged Dragon. The demure Kawasaki became the Pink Panther. These sketches made dad somewhat of a celebrity and when he finished a repair, he delivered the motorcycle with his artwork and a proud smile. Over the years, the townspeople became curious about what dad did in his motorcycle cave.

A Deer in Winter
At first, I just noticed this young doe haunting the same place. She grazed there in broad daylight, tawny body bright against the spring grasses. No doe would stay so long in one place without something to protect…and after several days, I saw him. Stalking carefully through the tall grass behind her was her fawn, balancing effortlessly on his incredibly slender pins. Baby deer can look remarkably like spiders at that age. His dappled coat looked painted on when he was upright, but I knew from experience that it made him invisible when he held very still in the grass.

C-Section Gone Wrong
It all started on January 12th, 2019. Me and my husband were both active duty Marines at the time. We got stationed apart officially the day we found out that we would be parents in about 9 months. You see this wasn't our orginal plan, we were going to try for children after I finished my contract.

How Your Early Experiences Shape The Way You Love
Each of us have different nuances in how we prefer to receive and give love in a relationship. Most of you may be familiar with the work "The Five Love Languages", some people enjoy giving gifts to show love and appreciation, while others prefer quality time or conversation. Psychologists differ on why we gravitate towards certain love behaviors while in a relationship but most will concur that how we experience love in our early years directly impacts the way we love when we mature into adults. Some of these experiences are positive while others may be negative, and at times be unhealthy to the point of bordering on abuse.

Fishing under the shade tree.
It is hot! Too hot for us to fish, my thoughts told me. My brother just ignored my complaints as usual and also as usual we had a break. School was out for the summer and boy did summer bring with it the southern heat! We had 30 acres of farmland to hike in. The cattle had 30 acres of land to graze in.

Gray Side of the Moon
No hymn nor tune to my soul, helpless vitality within me, stood numb to my surroundings, I drove my normal route. Another day, Five o'clock AM not another being on the street just myself in the dark what is considered morning, interrogating the meaning of morning? Abandoned in the dark my body was distant from the world. Wake up, MOVE!!! Ineffectual fear flooded down my face. Vehement utterance of the voice, EMOTIONS? Do I even know what i'm saying, my brain is disconnected as my heart had wondered. Doing what society requires me to do, while my feelings are lost and held by a straight jacket. Who am I? Street lights screaming for me when to slow down or when to move. My mind twisted RED, YELLOW, GREEN, what do you want from me? Driving a route I was trained to remember the only light I see is the moon, but no one sees the other side, what is illuminating to my eye, look closer the truth of the moon the divots the crater possessing the vision of veracity the so called face of the moon was hidden. The Black side of the moon, I stand there cold and alone. No sound but watching the world spiral into disaster and still I feel nothing. The ugly truth of this so called life!!!!

My Grandfather’s Garden
"A sweet potato for my Sweet Baby!" My grandfather reached over and pulled from his garden what had to be one of the largest root vegetables I had seen in my entire life. He gently placed it in my basket, and I looked up at him with excited, wide, eight-year-old eyes. He bent down and whispered, "Go show your grandmother what we found". I turned to run back towards their small brick house, pushing through the humidity, able to see my grandma through the kitchen window. I raised the yam over my head with pride, dirt from the garden trickling down onto my forehead. "We've got a vegetable for dinner, Grandma!" She smiled. We roasted sweet potato and freshly caught fish, paired with cheesy grits.
