Ember
Tears streamed down her face as she stood on the cliff edge, mixing as they ran down her cheeks with the rain that was falling in sheets across the vast expanse of steely grey. Sobs wracked her chest, the sound of them drowned by the waves crashing on the rocks below. Snot flowed from both nostrils and her hair was plastered to her forehead, but Meg didn’t care. Who was she trying to impress? The unfortunate dog walker who would find her once the storm had passed? The coroner performing her autopsy? It didn’t matter now. None of it mattered anymore, now that it was all about to be over.

Little Black Book
On the way to the bus, I stopped to smell the roses. There were many roses lined up and down the streets of Salem, Oregon. The euphoria from the wonderful smells lit up my nose and made my head dizzy. The smile I had on my face and the happy feelings I was having were leading to a crazy and manic state.

Five Misconceptions About Setting Boundaries
“Personal boundaries define you as an individual. They are statements of what you will or won’t do, what you like and don’t like, how far you will or won’t go, how close someone can get to you or how close you will get to another person . . . they are your value system in action.” — Gary and Joy Lundberg

Jejune, Shrapnel and Mustelids
I've always been a lover of words. When I was a kid I used to leaf through dictionary's for fun and when I learned a new word for the first time that meant everyone else did too. Most kids get called mean names based on what the bully's have decided is your greatest weakness and I was not spared mean name callers. I was Encyclopedia Brown....They derisively called me Encyclopedia Brown. Why? Racism mainly. My beautiful Indigenous genes meant I was perma-tanned making me the darkest kid in school who also liked read the dictionary. Unforch for them, I considered it a compliment. I clapped back by calling them Jejune and because they had no idea what jejune meant momentary confusion was created, like an Octopus's ink cloud, provided distraction for escape. I insisted that my mother make me an Encyclopedia Brown costume for Halloween that year. Nobody got it...including my mother.

A Book of Twenty Thousand Opportunities
Lennon’s attention abruptly changed from the conversation with Catori to something wedged in a shrub. The stems of the shrub were mushy and frail and no longer full of life. Lennon removed his facial mask as he walked to the shrub, crouched down, struggling to pull the item free. It was obvious the shrub wasn’t going to lose.

Worlds Connected
Not many people go out during a rainy day. I don't mind the cold weather and I find the smell of rain relaxing and healing. It was a late Monday afternoon when I decided to walk home after work. Instead of taking the train I took the sidewalk that led to a park near my home. I had brought an umbrella and was well aware of the weather that day. What I was not aware of was what I was about to find.
