Though the house was old and need a lot of work, the rustic look was just what the young couple was looking for. Getting away form the city is what they needed, more specifically, what their marriage needed.

One morning Marion was on the 3rd floor unpacking and sorting the room when she tripped over something protruding from the wooden floor. It looked like a small knob to a small door in the floor. Naturally, she was curious and went to pull open the door. Inside was a little black book. It was very old, dusty, about 5 x 7 , in a thin plastic cover but in mint condition. Nothing on the covered gave a clue to the contents inside.

When she opened the book, she saw a series of dates and numbers on each page. At first, it looked like perhaps some sort of ledger but as she moved through the pages, she saw the dates were becoming more current and eventually future dates. Her brow furrowed as she couldn’t figure out what make of the information. She decided to take the book and show her husband, John, when he got home.

Later that evening, she shows John the book. “This looks like a numbers book from the prohibition or something”. “What do you make of the future dates?” Asked Marion. “I dunno. Perhaps they were optimistic about the future?” Replied John. Marion was a bit more intrigued now with Johns response so she held kept the book close by.

Later that week, John and Marion were relaxing and in the background, the lottery numbers for the week were being called off.

Marion became curious and just wanted to check the little black book to humor Johns theory behind the book.

She wrote the numbers down and grabbed the book to check. She flipped to the current date and to her surprise, the number written was the same number drawn by the lottery. She thought out loud “this has to be a coincidence”. However, she decided to purchase a ticket for the next big drawing. She wasn’t planning to tell John until she could confirm her suspicion.

Two nights later, Marion grabbed the book, flipped to the days date the waited by the television trying desperately not to look too anxious as the numbers were called out.

“36, 44, 60, 54, 17, 1, 33,09”...

Marion dropped the book and froze for what to her seemed longer than the actual seconds it was. Then she let out a scream . John dashes into the room frantically, “HONEY! What’s the matter? What happened?”. With tears in her eyes. Marion holds up the ticket next to the numbers on the screen. “We are rich... like really Rich John!”

The couple cashed in the ticket. Marion wanted to keep the book around and find ways to either win again or spread the wealth of the books information with others. To her, this was gold and the ticket to wealth and saving their struggling marriage. John in the otherhand saw this as a once in a lifetime event and that they shouldn’t press their luck. However, when Marion went to locate the LBB, it was gone. She had placed it back in the hidden floor door and it and the floor door, was now gone. She claimed John had taken the books and sealed the floor. John denied he had anything to do with the disappearance and she was the last with it. Marion didn’t believe him and this caused more friction in their relationship.

John and Marion sold the house were divorced a year later , both doing well from the lottery winnings but Marions distrust and John disgust with Marions greed caused their already strained marriage to shatter to unrepairable pieces.

A new struggling couple moved into the house and upon unpacking items on the third Floor, Tricia stumbles across and door in the floor.
