Me
This Is For The Vocal "Maps of the Self" Challenge

My self is a mansion, with many rooms connected by corridors and staircases, and every day it gets bigger as I discover places in my self that I never knew existed.
There are places I can go without moving, although I can go there when I walk, and I often do, wandering down corridors, finding new doors, or ladders that take me to the attic and roof, or down to the dark cellar.
Although I could draw a map today, tomorrow it may have changed.
There is a room where I can lie down and dream, and in that room I can travel around the world and see impossible creatures and nations.
My eyes are the windows to my mind mansion, and my mouth is my door, but a lot finds egress and ingress by that door.
The map of my mind can only be drawn when I am in it, and when I sleep, the map dissolves like sugar in tea, to be reconstituted when I awaken the following day to find new corridors, rooms and staircases to explore.

This is what it is like this morning, and I could easily get lost in there. Tomorrow it may be different.
Sometimes I feel there is someone in there stalking me. I see the shadow, but never the creature; maybe I am just imagining whatever it is.
When I wake, I am always active, and I need the rooms and corridors in there to show me the things I need to know to get through my day.
Sometimes I find the room of memory, and it is full of books, which in turn are full of stories of what has happened in my life from childhood to this moment.
Sometimes I don't find the room, and other times the books change. Once, every book was written in French, so I had to leave and spend time in the corridor of learning. When I returned, the books were in Old English, which was interesting. Did my Mind Mansion think I was growing old? Was Wit trying to tell me something?
Other times, I try to find my library of inspiration, which shows me things that I can share with others, and makes me sound as though I am an expert in certain subjects.

I also have an art gallery in my Mind Mansion, and sometimes I spend long hours enjoying the works there. Of course, there is The "Mona Lisa" and Salvador Dali's "Metamorphosis of Narcissus" and many more, my gallery is better than any physical museum.
Each day this Mind Mansion gets bigger, the rooms are higher, the corridors longer, which does make the mapping of myself more difficult, but it also allows me to remember more and become a better person.
I have given images of the corridors and stairways that link the many rooms in my wonderful Mind Mansion, and each day is a new exploratory journey for me. In the past, I have found unknown treasures, and I expect today to find even more.
While I wander these corridors alone, they give me tales I can tell to my friends who often ask, "How did you think of that?"
Of course, this is all in my head; it is not real for you, but it is for me. I wander here every day, and I have still not seen everything it has to offer, because every day it changes and shows me something new.
With my Mind Mansion, I am never empty, and I always have something new to explore, almost like a mental Indiana Jones.
Will I find more treasures today?
Who knows?

The room of memories with its changing languages and shifting books is such a brilliant metaphor for how memory feels fluid, surprising, sometimes elusive.
This is gorgeously crafted! I've got my fingers crossed for a win for you!! 💜
Really mind blowing love ittt
Congratulations on TS. This is a beautiful read.
✒️"For 'tis the mind that makes the body rich" (Shakespeare). If this is true, you are a wealthy man, indeed. From your striking gateway art through the galleries of your words and mansions, this is a masterpiece. Congratulations! 👏
Congrats on the TS, Mike!! Well deserved!!
This is fantastic, Mike! Truly enjoyable and so well done. I loved the images and the mind as it changes on different days. "With my Mind Mansion, I am never empty, and I always have something new to explore, almost like a mental Indiana Jones." This is a great sentence and I love the comparison, "like a mental Indiana Jones." Congratulations on the Top Story!
Look at that, Vocal still likes you and remembers you 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊
This is a fascinating method of self-discovery, Mike. Reminds me a bit of M.C. Escher’s Relativity and a much more uplifting version of Shinedown’s A Symptom of Being Human. Well written, and I knew you’d get a Top Story today! Congrats!
This is fascinating, Mikeydred! Congratulations for the TS!
And your mind has become a beautiful metaphor for self-discovery. Congrats on a very well-deserved TS, Mike.
Wonderful take on the challenge, Mike. The images also add to the story. A great entry, hope you do well.
This would make a great entry to the Parallel Universe Challenge. We enter a lots of doors in are minds that are like mansion.
Hey, Mike. What an article and I believe we all at least have some form of your 'Mind Mansion' in ourselves. Good job.
What a cool concept :) This was a joy to read
I enjoyed the introduction to your mind mansion, Mike. I particularly loved the stalker part and “There is a room where I can lie down and dream, and in that room I can travel around the world and see impossible creatures and nations.” 😊
I haven't read the requirements for this challenge yet. But to see you entering them is awesome. Oooo that's that clever. Describing yourself as like a mansion. 'Mind mansion' love this. I am actually getting goosebumps now. This challenge is bringing out the absolute best lines out of you, Mike. You're a writer. A good one. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Sometimes we just need the right prompt. I love the sugar in tea anology. 'it may be different' love the repetition of this line. I too, like when I enter that room. Where I sound like am an expert in certain subjects. I would ask you now. How did you think of this, lol. Brilliant. I hope you do find more treasures today. This was absolutely outstanding. And I mean that in all the letters of what made up this comment. 🤗❤️
I especially loved the idea of the books changing languages and the hidden shadowy figure that may or may not be real. Awesome work.
Oh wow, your Mind Mansion is so fascinating and I love how you described the map to dissolve like sugar in tea
