The simple statement, “You should think of your energy as an expensive luxury. Not everyone can afford it. Not everyone has invested effort in you, so you don't need to invest effort in these people. Where you spend your energy is where your day is,” has left a deep impression on me.

This seemingly simple sentence is a golden rule of life, because energy truly is everything.

Why Energy Is Your Most Valuable Asset

1. The energy you carry determines the people and things you attract.

Your energy is your magnetic field. Complaining and negativity will only attract more of the same; staying positive and clear-headed will draw the right people and opportunities into your life.

2. Without energy, no amount of time is useful.

Time can be recovered, but once energy is depleted, it's hard to replenish. This is why you must not let others drain your energy. Even a mere ten minutes can ruin your entire day.

3. Energy is contagious—who you're with really matters.

Some people make you feel recharged the moment you meet them, while others instantly drain your battery. This isn't an illusion; it's a genuine exchange of energy. Choosing the right person will make you stronger; choosing the wrong one will inevitably drag you down.

4. Not everything is worth your energy; making choices is managing your energy.

Energy is a limited resource. Don't waste it on trivial matters. Knowing how to say “no” is the key to conserving your energy and reserving it for what truly matters.

5. Your energy level directly determines the level of your life.

When energy is low, you only want to compromise and settle. When energy is high, you have the courage to choose the life you truly want. Your life reaches its peak where your energy is.

The Scientific Proof: Energy Flows Bidirectionally

A long-term longitudinal study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology by a psychology team at UCLA observed hundreds of couples over several years. Researchers regularly measured their psychological and physical data, specifically the concentration of the stress hormone cortisol.

The results were striking:

If one partner was chronically in a negative emotional state (frequently experiencing anxiety, complaining, or depression), the other partner’s cortisol levels also increased. In other words, even if nothing happened to you personally, living with "low-energy" people puts a silent, measurable strain on your body.

Conversely, if one partner provided positive support—such as encouragement, comfort, or humor to ease tension—the other's stress levels decreased, and their happiness significantly increased.

This proves that energy truly flows bidirectionally between partners, like sharing the same pool. The other person's state not only affects your emotions but also genuinely alters your physical health.

In the long run, who you choose to be with may determine whether your life becomes increasingly easier or is slowly crushed under silent stress.

Protect Your Luxury

Think of a cat; they don't just let anyone hold or pet them. Only those who truly offer value or genuinely care for them are qualified to approach. This is how they protect their energy.

The same applies to people: you don't need to open yourself up to everyone. Energy truly is the most precious luxury. Not everyone can afford it, and not everyone is worth your investment. This applies to friends, partners, and work colleagues alike.

The people around you form your energy field. Those who truly understand you won't drain your energy; instead, they'll empower you. By choosing the right people and things, you'll live in a more comfortable and clear energy field.
