Bono Among the Nominees: FIFA Announces "The Best" Award Candidates

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) revealed today, Thursday, the lists of nominees for The Best awards in the world for the year 2023.

FIFA has opened the nomination process to the public for voting to choose the winners of the awards for the best male player, best female player, best male coach, best female football coach, best male goalkeeper, best female goalkeeper, and the Fans' Award.

The winners are selected through a voting process that involves coaches, national team captains, fans, and a selected group of journalists.

The evaluation period covers the time between December 19, 2022, and August 20, 2023. This means that performance during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was not taken into account.

As for the women's categories, the voting considered the performances of the competitors between August 1, 2022, and August 20, 2023, which is the day of the Women's World Cup final between Spain and England.

The list of nominees for The Best Player Award includes 6 players from English club Manchester City out of 12 nominees, in addition to Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, who is nominated for the Best Male Coach award. As for the women's football coaches, the list includes Emma Hayes and Sarina Wiegman.
