A Man’s Success Depends on the Woman He Marries
Do you believe this?
Whether you are aware of this or not, success and outlook on life really depend on the people around you, and science has taken things and taken them forward.
According to the researchers, the person you choose to marry can have a big influence on your success.
A study on this topic, recently published by Carnegie Mellon University, shows that spouses have a strong impact on their partners' decisions, later contributing to their success or failure.
The study also stated that husbands who support each other have a much better chance of achieving what they set out to do, by fostering self-confidence.
People who are supported by their partners tend to take on greater challenges
The researchers came to this conclusion after studying the behavior of 163 married couples. The interaction of the partners of each of the couples was followed after they were offered both the chance to choose between solving a simple puzzle and the possibility to compete for a prize.
It turned out that those who were supported and encouraged by their partners chose, for the most part, to compete for a prize. Meanwhile, couples who did not have an encouraging attitude rejected the challenge and opted for the puzzle.
But the experiment did not end here. Six months after this, the researchers found that accepting the bigger challenges strengthened the couple's relationship between the partners in many ways and developed harmoniously, while the couples who chose the "easy way" encountered difficulties, not declaring themselves as happy.
"We realized that support in times of need when it comes to making a decision - such as a new job opportunity or making friends - matters a lot to the well-being of the couple's partners," said Brooke Feeney, study coordinator. and Professor of Psychology at CMU's Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
"Important people in our lives can help us grow and embrace the opportunities that arise, or they can discourage us with a pessimistic attitude."
Successful couples support these claims
Probably the best proof that studies are right are the famous and very successful couples nowadays. Barack and Michelle Obama, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Jay-Z and Beyonce are some of the iconic couples that can be given as an example.
Although each comes with a different background and belongs to an industry other than his partner, everyone admits that he would not have reached this threshold of success without the support of his half.
"I certainly wouldn't have been able to do any of this without Michelle. You asked me earlier what helps me to keep my balance and cope with the pressures around me. Everything is due to this young lady next to me… Not only did she manage to be an exceptional First Lady, but she is also my support. I rely on her in so many ways in every moment of my life! " The then President of the United States, Barack Obama, testified in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2011.
Mark Zuckerberg also expressed his gratitude to his wife, Priscilla, as the founder of Facebook, giving her credit for her efforts in her 2017 Harvard graduation speech.
"Priscilla is the most important person in my life, so I can say that she's the most beautiful thing I've ever built here."
But it is not only the wives who prove to be supportive in the relationship. Husbands are equally involved, and RnB superstar Beyonce says her husband Jay-Z supports her in many ways. "I would not have been the woman now if I had not returned home to this man. It's a huge support for me. "
Thoughts at the end
Each of us has our vision of success, and most likely many of us rule out the idea of marriage. But who can challenge the joy of having someone in our life who believes in us and motivates us to push our limits?
