The Abandoned Cabin
"The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window." Small puncture holes from bebe guns perforate the glass. The chilly autumn wind flutters in the circular spaces between the glass and around the border of the ancient window panel—its protection from the outer world long since worn away.

Debts to be Paid
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It was late on a Friday night when Adam passed by the eerie cabin on his nightly walk around the beach to clear his head. Adam suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the time he found his brother and father dead in their home. They had both been brutally murdered and their bodies had been butchered and spread around the living room. Police investigated the crime scene and found no evidence of who the killer was or how they got in or escaped. Adam has survived the last 15 years with consistent counseling and physical exercise routines to keep his mind clear of the memories of that horrible night. On this night, however, seeing that burning candle, something in his memory was triggered. Adam ran back down to the front row of houses and began waking his cousins up in a panic.

Summoning.
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The chill autumn air and the full moon did very little to calm his nerves as he stared at that single yellow and orange teardrop with equal parts disbelief and dread. Disbelief that the ritual might have worked and dread at the very real possibility that someone found the girl’s body.

The Yellow Eyed Boy
“The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window-“ "This is such bullshit and you know it, Jess." Her brother James had cut her off. He had been in a mood all day, it was pretty obvious he didn't want to be here. Jessica, James, and their two friends, Chris and Emily, had been planning all week to investigate this old cabin in the woods on the edge of their neighborhood. The cabin had been here as long as anyone could remember, although no one could quite recall where it came from or who built it.

The Bog-lings
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The first night, it had been an evening clenched by mist in the early spring of 1847. A gloomy night when the forest near Moeras crept with nocturnal creatures that howled or skittered across the sunken ground. The lonely cabin crouched under the shade of twin dogwoods that stooped over the slanted shack with needle-like branches and white blossoms that floated through the whistling wind. Through the sighing fog, you could just make out a rickety skeleton of the old fence surrounding the island of jagged rock that waited in the center of a churning, black bog.

A Life for a Life...
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The flicker of the newly lit flame seemed to dance to an unknown beat that resonated through barren trees and damp grass. This unseen pulse stretched itself across lakes and around untouched mountaintops that looked down onto the neighboring villages. The sound would fall onto sleeping ears as many in town lay in their beds, unsuspecting and completely vulnerable. It sounded like a heartbeat attached with an ominous whisper.

The Drifter
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It was the kind of candle that burned slowly and would last through the night. It only provided enough light to warn others that this cabin was occupied. No one would be able to see much of anything in the soft glow, but the drifter had learned how to set up his makeshift camp in the dark. After years of traveling around the world, he’d become very comfortable with being on the go, never unpacking more than he needed. He didn’t stay in any one place for too long. That wasn’t his way. He’d be gone before the candle burned out. At least that was the plan.

Seeking solace in the woods
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. A couple of backpackers stumbled upon the eerie cabin in their quest to find shelter from an unexpected blizzard that had rolled in. Jessie had known about a cabin in these woods and though he had heard several scary stories about this cabin, he assumed it was all small-town folklore to keep young kids out.

The Sin Eater
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Reynolds didn’t hear about this until at least a day later. It was Mrs. Greystone, as always, who brought in the latest gossip and elderly woman’s fears. It was a Friday afternoon, and Reynolds, still the junior-most deputy in the sheriff’s department despite no longer considering himself a “rookie,” was dreading the late-night shift he would have to start when evening hit.
