Waking Up From A Nightmare In a Palace of Wonderful Things
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. I watched a figure’s shadow crawl up the decrepit structure’s tattered walls and bend sharply onto the ceiling like an obscure surrealist painting. Shadows have a way of depicting the figures that create them with a disturbingly odd misshapenness. Shadows do not show things as they are, but rather as you perceive them. A fear-ridden, creative mind can confuse shadows cast by harmless creatures or inanimate objects as something, or someone, utterly horrifying. In a sense, shadows can cause people to drive themselves into a terror-induced psychosis, if only for a few minutes at a time.

The Cackling Cabin
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. A park ranger named Rachel was walking by the cabin and stops on her patrol, when she noticed the light in the window of the cabin. Rachel decides to phone in the suspicious light from the cabin to dispatch: “Hey Fred, do you know of anyone that would be in the cabin over on Cackle Hollow Road? There’s a candle burning by a window on the second floor.” Fred replies in a flat tone, “Uh negative Rachel; no one should be in that cabin... it’s been empty for over a decade. I’ll reach out to Trish Peterson though, she’s the owner and a longtime family friend. Stand by.”

Paint the Town Red
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Jack parked his truck I looked over at Samantha. “Looks like someone’s discovered our party shack.” Mike leaned forward from the back seat, “we’ve got plenty of beer.” Kya turned on a few battery-operated lanterns and passed them to her friends. She rolled her eyes, “Jack, you’ll talk to them about the candle? Those boards are over a hundred years old. If a draft blows, the whole place goes up.” Jack nodded, “I’ll take care of it.” Mike and Jack carried the cooler into the sitting room while Kya dusted off the couch. “Looks like whoever was here forgot to put it out before they left, because the place is empty. Who’s cabin is this anyway?” she asked sitting at the end of the couch. Samantha shot her a sideways glance, “it’s the old CIA safe house.” Mike saw Kya’s eyes widen in surprise. He laughed and flopped on the couch next to her opening a beer, “Gather round ladies! It’s time for Jack to tell the story of Billy the Butcher.”

You Scream You Die
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. It was the first night out in the woods for Drake, Tom, Sue, Amy, Pete, and Talia, who had decided to spend that Halloween weekend camping. They were a group of friends and residents of the town of Lockwood which was right on the edge of the forest. Tom was the oldest at twenty and Amy the youngest at seventeen.

Raid of The Aurum Druids
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Most hikers were familiar enough with the story of this cabin, as the ramblings of that terrible night made the local papers. But it was an old story, so most skeptics knew it as more of a tale told to keep children out of these particular woods at night. The story itself changed a little bit as every new generation added or changed details to keep it relevant; to keep the kids of the time scared. But was it only to keep them scared, of some decrepit old cabin amongst the trees, or to keep them safe from something more...strange and unknown? The last recorded time the azure flame of that strange candle flickered in the second floor window of what was once part of a larger homestead, an entire family lost their lives to the woods beyond.

Possessed to Believe
"The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window". It was only a thirty second promo video of a haunted lake near our town. As I listened to it on repeat, I scrolled through the comments. There were a lot of people that seemed to confirm the occurrence. "It's true I've been camping there many times and most recently there has been strange movement in there. Maybe it's haunted!" "We STAN a haunted cabin!" Well that one wasn't really confirming it but I was sold. After reading all the comments I knew this would be a great birthday surprise for my partner Basil. I personally didn't believe in ghosts so it was just another camping trip to the lake. But for them, I knew, it would be like taking a kid to the playground. It was sweet watching the excitement in their eyes whenever there was "paranormal" to explore.

The Ringing in the Dark
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. The wind clawed at the rotting walls, the trees brushed wooden fingers against the roof, and the three men within huddled closer to the flame.
