Fatal Change
Stan, a 55-year-old traveling sales agent, is a Bostonian through and through. The Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins are the only team’s worth rooting for. In Stan’s world, change can never be a good thing. His third-floor walkup apartment is the same one he and a fellow student originally rented while attending Suffolk University 35 years ago. The roommate moved on. Stan did not. Why leave a place he knows?

The Horse That Bore Bad News
Ciaohme plucked another daisy, smiling as she ran from daisy to daisy, plucking the flowers and putting them into her basket. Her mother watched, smiling at her daughter's industriousness. The young girl saw a pony, a beautiful roan, nibbling at the grass. She ran up to it and put her hand on it. The pony looked up at her; Caiohme saw the pony smile so she smiled back. The pony threw her head back; the girl found her hand was stuck to the pony. The pony galloped off. The girl screamed.

A Hat of Silk and Lightning
The problem with building a snowman in the middle of a thaumaturgic circle is that rolling the bottom ball over the circle smears the circle. Thus, Edwin had to build the snowman and then redraw the circle. He wiped his brow and exhaled, but he had finally finished the major work. He checked the small electric generator, put it into the silk hat, and put it on the snowman. In front of the snowman he placed a chewed-on pencil, a crumpled T-shirt, a whistle, and three diamonds, He lit the candles surrounding the circle and started the ritual to summon the demon that would bring the snowman to life.

Did a Prank Create the Rolling Calf?
I am from Jamaica, and I always hear the old folks talk about the Rolling Calf. I have never seen one, but some people would swear on anything that they are real. It makes me wonder, what is a Rolling Calf, and how did these stories even start? My grandmother told me a story from when she was a young girl. She and her best friends decided to play a little joke on their community. It was a long time ago, not like now, where you can just call a taxi. Back then, there was only one bus that went to town, and it only came at a certain time. If you missed the bus or if there were no cars around, you had to walk. People would walk for miles and miles, or sometimes they would ride their donkeys.

The House That Watches Back
The House That Watches Back The house on Ashgrove Lane wasn’t what they wanted — it was what they could afford. After months of searching, Emily and Daniel finally signed the papers. To Emily, it looked like something out of an old novel: creaking floors, ivy crawling up the walls, and a staircase that whispered under every step. To their eight-year-old daughter, Lily, it was “the fairy house.”

They're Not Just Good For Doctors
Little Robby pulled the quilt up over his head. He heard the chains being drug over the wooden floors below. Even at twelve, he knew the stories. He heard the clip-clop of hooves on the stairs. Those stories didn't usually end well for the children involved, children who had not exactly been angels throughout the year.

An Owl in the Daylight
Today, I saw an owl, and I really, really hated it. I live in the countryside of Jamaica. It’s a very green place. There are trees everywhere, so many trees. We have lots of fruit trees, like mango trees, ackee trees, and apple trees. These trees grow so big and tall. They reach way up into the sky, and their leaves make lots of shade on the ground. It’s usually a very peaceful and happy place to be. I love living here because it’s quiet and full of nature’s sounds, like birds singing in the morning and crickets chirping at night. But today, something happened that made me feel not so peaceful. It made me feel very strange and uncomfortable.
