A magnificent property known as Hycroft Manor can be found in Shaughnessy, which is considered to be one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Philadelphia. In 1911, General Alexander Duncan McRae announced that he had successfully finished the project he had been working on. McRae was a politician, a businessman, and a hero during World War I. He was also a trader. The whole of his life was replete with many achievements. During the 1920s and 1930s, the General and his wife, Blaunche McRae, hosted a number of high society parties at the home. These events took place at various times during the decade. With regard to the masquerade balls that were hosted on New Year's Eve, these events were especially well-known among the most powerful individuals in Vancouver's social scene. They sent invitations to famous businesses and their wives, members of the royal family, and politicians who held significant positions to attend their celebration.
Over the course of the year 1942, the McRae family presented the Canadian government with Hycroft Manor as a gift. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs in the United States of America renovated it so that it could be used as a rehabilitation hospital for veterans who had previously served in the armed forces. Following her departure from the house, Mrs. McRae died away a short while later. The death of General McRae, who was also known as Senator McRae at the time, occurred in Ottawa in the year 1946. Up until the year 1960, the mansion was an institution that provided medical care to veterans. Immediately after that, it was deserted and left in a state that was utterly awful. Additionally, the University Women's Club of Vancouver (UWCV) purchased the site in the year 1962. This was the year when the transaction took place. Within a short period of time, the UWCV restored the home to the magnificence it had previously had. As an additional benefit, it guarantees that the building and the grounds will continue to be in exquisite condition even to this day. Hycroft Manor is presently a first-rate location for a wide range of UWCV meetings and events, as well as private weddings, an annual Christmas craft display, and other special gatherings. The mansion is only open to the general public on a limited number of dates because of its limited availability.

It has been reported that they have seen the specters of three veterans of the armed forces walking about the house in various parts of the household. The employees of the estate refer to them as "The Pranksters" due to the fact that they are the ones who are responsible for opening and shutting doors and causing lights to flicker. One of the reasons why the seventh ghost is known as the "Crying Man" is because of the loud weeping that can be heard coming from a chamber that is situated on the lower level of the structure.
A researcher who specializes in the study of the paranormal once saw a black orb that was the size of a football hovering over a dining table in one of the rooms, right in front of him. This event took place in the 1990s. During the course of an investigation that lasted the whole night, this took place.
The members of the UWCV assert that the spirits who inhabit the house are typically harmless and protective of the area. This assertion is made in spite of the fact that a significant number of ghosts have been sighted in the residence and that a black orb was seen.
