Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
Seven Devils
It was a warm midsummer night, and Elijah Clarke lay sleepless in his half-empty bed. Accepting the fact that he wouldn’t be asleep anytime soon, he shifted the blankets off him and stood up, the wood of the floor cold beneath his feet. He walked to the window and opened it, letting in the fresh air. He gazed out into the miles and miles of tall grass stretching to the horizon that expanded into a moonless sky. He had to admit, he loved the rural American Midwest, adored the isolation and the endless plains. To him, it was the best place on Earth. Wind blew in, carrying the scent of a coming storm with it. Taking in a deep breath, he walked out of his room and into the hallway.

Fruits of Thine Labor
*The sugar filled juices of an apple, seeping through the skins like the blood from a jugular. The blood from Adam’s apple, soaking through the loins of Eve as she lay his dying head on her lap – cold hearted and uncaring as she lay the carved stone next to her side.

ASYLUM
They say I need to separate illusion from reality. Apparently, I suffer from delusional misconceptions. At night I dream a dream of peace. I am in a jungle, or on a deserted beach. I am wearing something like a bikini made of leaves and twigs, but it’s comfortable. My hair is matted and filled with mud, but I don’t mind. I am alone, sitting, waiting, dazed and confused. “Where did I come from?” I say out loud, and then I see coming toward me the most beautiful creature my eyes ever beheld. Which isn’t saying much since all I have seen before are these trees. The figure walks upright gracefully with arms and legs, sleek and slender. His body seems to glow with the sunshine behind him. I am too awed to be afraid. I feel this being is greater than myself, filled with some knowledge I do not have. I will ask him my question. He is finally near me; his blue eyes sparkle, and his arms and skin are a lighter shade than mine. I am brown, and he is more of a golden bronze. He is different from me, yet when we are close, I feel we are the same- one in two bodies. He crouches down low next to me, and I pull away a little, unsure of his intentions. But he looks at me, into my eyes, his face open and inviting. “Do not be afraid. My name is Adam, and you are Eve.”

Post/Life/Script
Post/Life/Script Chapter 1: Grave Ideas The contest invitation was linked to an anonymous email. Twenty-thousand-dollar prize money for a fictional story about something that terrifies you. Simple enough, all Levi needed was a day to sit and meander through a grave of memories, ideas and concepts he never executed, in hopes of coming up with something. It would be that simple if not for that one glooming thing. There’s a block and it’s angry, insipid but seen and it cast a great shadow over him. It taps at the base of his senses causing discomfort on every level. It makes it difficult to put words into sentences, sentences into paragraphs. Everything’s fragmented and distorted. The weight is agonizing.

The Second Chance
It was a Sunday, I casually glanced at the clock as the music on the radio faded into the background of my daydream. 12:00 pm and my day hadn’t even begun. I couldn’t help but wonder what happened in those woods yesterday. I was scared shitless, sitting in an abandoned G-Mart parking lot with nothing but the high noon sun beaming down on my face and a black duffle bag full of money in the back seat. “What the heck happened?” I said with confusion as I picked up the little black notebook from the dash that I had found inside the bag. “This must hold the answers?” I thought.... but to understand it all, I must take you back to when it all began.

Claustrophobic Much?
The day of the shopping trip will stand out in my mind for the rest of my life. It was the day that my whole world changed. The day started off well enough. I woke up to my family hanging around, a few friends had stopped by on their way home or wherever they were headed. It was a big day. Sundays were always big days. After waking up enough to get my head on straight, I looked over at my family and the excitement on everyone's face sent a jolt of energy through my body. Yes, that was the day that the whole world changed.
