The Town Named Bilmo
Foreword: Hello, my name is Joseph Roy Wright. I am a Self-Published author of three novels. The Town Named Bilmo is my third book. The book is set in Wales, however the town itself is heavily inspired by my home town of Runcorn (which is in England). I post the first chapter here for some feedback and as exposure, but mainly because I plan on one day becoming a full time writer. Please feel to let me know on Social Media what you guys think of my writing and if this book (or any other I have written) interests you. I hope you enjoy this first chapter and that it peaks your interest. Thanks for reading. Links to my social media and books will be posted at the bottom of this article.

Closet
Helen slams the closet door, leans against it, her heart racing. Then she is overtaken by what her father had called the ‘little girl shakes.’ She steps away from the closet. Takes several deep breaths. She doesn’t like remembering her father; he was not a good man.

Sequester. Top Story - April 2021.
Light gently permeated this foreign place from incandescent pinheads in the far off distance, entire galaxies unknown to man spaced far yet not so few between. Clouds of gaseous blue and purple detonations mottled across this great beyond, surpassing the grasp of one’s ability to imagine it’s scope, let alone handle an understanding of such phenomena. My head, both light and lagging, revolved across this vast spacescape in awe, temporarily unaware of the absurdness of my situation as I sheepishly peered into the glory of both past and present. As my gaze descended my eyes caught my pale feet, wide and naked, firmly planted on an imperceptible plain. A torrent of ice began to stretch from behind my eyes up and backward, a measured waltz from neuron to the next which promptly dissipated as it’s travel found the nape of my neck. My lips curled as my mouth cracked in horror letting out a scream, a scream that came up silent as if I were an actor in one of those silent film reels I’d seen as a child.

Finding Atlas
Nox cawed “fly” and flew off Aurora's shoulder. Startled she tripped over her hastily tied bootlace and fell straight forward into the wet grass, the acorns she was holding flying in all directions. She landed on her stomach and arms, now completely drenched. “Shit.” As she pushed herself up she spotted something white down on the beach, only barely over the tree line. Aurora had been walking down the pathway heading back to her village from wandering in the forest. She'd intended to bring the nuts back home to roast, plans for another day now. There were trees blocking her view but she could just see the tip of a white sail.

The Revenge of the Ghost
Sandhya was the happiest person in the world. She had purchased a new house in a hill station which was two hours drive from the metro city where she used to stay. This was to be used as a weekend home to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and to refresh at the end of the week.

Thick Bodies Of Wine
One: Half passed 6pm, Greg read the time on his phone and winced. He was early. Thirty minutes early. Greg hesitated on the sidewalk in front of the house. Part of him wanted to walk right up to the house steps with confidence. The other part of Greg thought that would be too much too soon, especially given how early he was. Before Greg had time to debate with himself much longer, the front door opened. The open doorway acted as the only source of light on this street on this winter night.

The House Inside The Home
When I woke up, I pinched my neck to make sure I was still alive. My eyes tried to adjust to the dark, but it was useless. It was an eat-your-face kind of darkness. Pain ran from my shoulders through my lower back and down into my legs. All of my muscles felt like they were going to snap, like I was made out of porcelain. Humans weren’t made to stand for this long.

The Knocking on the Wall
“Present” and “Past”, “Here” and “There”. Interweaving threads of emotion cast around a torrent of space and time. Where can you stay if the very thing you fear is yourself? Do you succumb to the madness of the emptiness? Or will you struggle through the binding chains of despair? Questions asked that will never be answered. Existing in the “Present” and “Past”, the “Here” and “There” is the thing all beings fear more than any, the malice of pain. Made whole by the suffering of the universe’s interweaving threads of fear, it came to stay. Sitting between what we could see and what we couldn’t. Waiting patiently for the day it might reach out it’s hand to someone and feel warmth. It has existed since before and now, walking alongside creatures and waiting only a few feet away from them. Only when its eyes lifted to the Sol system did something unexpected happen, it smiled. A smile that defied everything the universe set in place. It was nothing more than a concept, an idea made whole unintentionally by the life brought to be.

Don't Trust Strangers
He sits there eyeing her from a distance and thinks to himself on how she’d be perfect for it. He sits there idly, waiting for the sacrifice. She lies there hoping that it’s alright. There was just a slight moan that quivered from her lips as the blade entered her side. Then, as a scream was beginning to emerge, her mouth was gagged closed.

Unparalleled Universe: Part 1
Nick was conflicted by the desert. He felt it was dry, dusty, egregiously hot and far, far too empty. The blue domed void gave him a delicate sense of fear. As if the sky would swallow him up whole. Though simultaneously, the near quiet environment with the occasional gust of dust stirring wind gave him a sense peace. It allowed him to think clearly and thoroughly. As Nick sat in his dusty, primer black and slightly abused 1969 Dodge Charger, he sweated profusely. Nick could handle heat, but today was a hot one. He wondered if he should remove his leather cowboy hat, then decided an ice age was the only real solution. Might as well just take it like a man. He smirked at the thought, and took a healthy pull off from his bottle of beer, condensation ran down the brown glass, wetting his chin. Nick wiped at his face with the back of his bare arm. Letting out a deep breath, his nerves eased slightly.

Black Widow
My love life is terrible. It seems everyone I meet these days is never interested. If we’re honest, I do not think I am a bad-looking girl, and I have a good head on my shoulders. I have a 9-5 job that pays my bills and a college degree, so what is so wrong with me? I have tried everything from dating apps to blind dates to even meeting random people in a bar. It just never seems to work out for me.
