Sandhya was the happiest person in the world. She had purchased a new house in a hill station which was two hours drive from the metro city where she used to stay. This was to be used as a weekend home to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city and to refresh at the end of the week.

The cool climate at the hill station bowled her over and soon after the purchase; she gave a house warming party to all the neighbors. She was happy getting the house at a cheaper rate than the market value. All the neighbors present at the party were very supportive and she and her husband took good care of them.

During the weekend Sandhya and her husband used to visit the house with their small son and enjoy trekking. Their routine visit to the hill station took care of the maintenance of the house.

After a month of the purchase on one of the weekdays, Sandhya was talking to her husband,

“Sweetheart this time when we go to our weekend home we will also visit the nearby dam. Rahul would be very happy to see the river and the fish.”

“I am afraid this weekend I will have to go to the office as we have to prepare for an audit which is scheduled for next week. You can go with Rahul if you wish” her husband Raj replied.

“We will miss you, but this week we will have to go as we have to attend the engagement of Mrs Sharma’s daughter.”

The weekend arrived and Sandhya and her son Rahul took their car and left for the hill station. They attended the engagement ceremony and came back to their house in the center of the hills.

It was nighttime now and Sandhya looked out of her window. Due to the heavy rains, the climate had turned cold. Sandhya pulled the blanket over Rahul and within few minutes he was asleep. She looked out of the window, it was still raining heavily.

Suddenly she saw an object flashing past the window. After a few minutes again she saw the same white object passing the window from another direction. Who could it be, she was thinking? And that too at midnight. She was frightened a bit and closed her eyes.

After a few minutes, she could hear some footsteps as if someone was walking on the ground floor. She quickly got up and closed the door leading to the stairs, but the footsteps could still be heard. In a few minutes, she started to hear a haunting song in the voice of a female.

Sandhya was sure that she had locked the door, so how could anyone enter the house? She was now sweating even in this cold weather. Raj was not there to support her and she was terrified. What could she do? She began praying to God and in an hour fell asleep.

The next day she woke up hearing the chirping of the birds. She looked at the watch and it was 8 a.m. Remembering the incident of the previous night she was afraid to get out of her bed. But she took courage by remembering God, opened the door leading to the stairs, and came to the ground floor. There was no one there and she heaved a sigh of relief.

She went to the washroom and brushed her teeth. As she came back to the drawing-room she saw some footsteps as if someone had walked there the previous night. There were no footmarks when she had come there the previous evening. Suddenly her eyes went towards the curtains. What were those red marks on the curtains? She went nearer and observed that they looked like bloodstains.

Sandhya now panicked and rushed to the first floor where Rahul was sleeping. She picked him up and rushed towards her car. In two hours she was in her city and narrated the events to Raj, who laughed at her.

“Dear, I am surprised that in this age you still believe in ghosts,” Raj said smiling.

“Once you come to the house you will know that something was amiss. I too don’t believe in ghosts, but the event of yesterday night confirms that I was wrong till now.”

“We need not argue over this. Next week I am coming with you to the hill station and I would surely like to meet your ghost” remarked Raj as if making fun of her.

Over the weekend they reached their vacation home. The first floor was their bedroom and both of them along with Rahul went to sleep there. Sandhya wanted to bolt the door of the first floor, but Raj asked her not to be afraid as he was there with her.

At midnight they heard a knock at the door. Raj hugged Sandhya as she was completely frightened. Slowly they began to hear a haunting song and then the footsteps as if someone was coming upstairs. There were worries on the face of Raj too. The smell in the room started to change as if someone had sprinkled rosewater.

After a few seconds, they saw a figure in their room making faces at them. It appeared to be of a lady. Raj and Sandhya were now completely afraid and it appeared as if the female ghost was pulling their hair. Raj soon began reciting the verses from the holy book which his mother had taught him in childhood.

Sandhya too closed her eyes and together with Rahul all three of them were reciting the verses loudly. They closed their eyes in fear and when they opened them after fifteen minutes the ghost had disappeared.

Raj said to Sandhya “Let’s go to sleep. Tomorrow we will see what we can do.”

The next day morning they got up with the first rays of the sunlight. They recollected the events of the previous night and Raj thought it fit to ask the help of the neighbors. One of them suggested the name of an exorcist who was very famous in the area.

Raj and Sandhya immediately boarded their car and left for the house of the exorcist. They knocked at the door and a lady opened the door. Raj informed them of the purpose of their visit and the lady led them to a room where the exorcist was busy in prayers. There were a skull, broom, and few black clothes around him.

“We have come here as we are troubled by a ghost in our newly purchased house,” Raj spoke.

“Don’t worry I will overpower the ghost with the help of my superpowers and the blessings of God. Only thing is that you have to collect some materials for prayers from the market and I will reach your place in an hour.”

Raj was satisfied with the meeting and together with Sandhya went to purchase all the items for the prayer. In half an hour they reached their house and began arranging items for the prayer. They made some colored marks on the floor and spread flowers nearby. Then they kept the idol of their God and sat there with folded hands.

The exorcist arrived there in half an hour and Raj opened the door to receive him. He entered inside and directly went to the place where the arrangements had been made for prayers. Soon he started reciting some hymns praising God. Then he spoke,

“O, God! If for my whole life I have helped innocent people, then let the ghost appear before me.”

Soon the female Ghost appeared in front of them. Raj and Sandhya were terrified of seeing her but the exorcist was cool and calm and was continuously reading the hymns, praising God.

“O Spirit” the exorcist spoke again “Why do you trouble these innocent people?”

“This is because I never got justice when I was alive.” The ghost spoke in great anger.

“What happened and what was the injustice done?” the exorcist inquired.

“My boyfriend took advantage of me and when I was five months pregnant he murdered me as he did not want the child. After this, he buried my body in the garden of this house” the ghost was seething with anger.

“Injustice has been done to you, I agree, but you can’t keep troubling innocent persons like Raj and Sandhya.” Saying this he uncorked a bottle and instructed the spirit to enter the bottle, all the while reciting some prayers.

“No, I will not do this till I get my revenge on that son of a bitch.” Saying this the ghost began throwing all the utensils, the television set, and the refrigerator towards them. The exorcist raised his hand and stopped all the items with his special power. The ghost was all the time gnashing her teeth and soon approached them with a knife.

The exorcist closed his eyes and began chanting hymns in all loudness. Then he took a bowl filled with water and sprinkled some water on the ghost. The ghost was trying to harm them but felt powerless as the exorcist had tied her with his hymns and recitation of prayers. Soon he instructed the ghost to enter the bottle which she did meekly. He soon placed the cap on the bottle and kept the bottle in his bag.

Turning towards Raj and Sandhya he remarked “I have completed my job. You need not be afraid now.”

“What about the ghost. Where would you keep her?”

“Don’t worry about her. I will keep her at a place where she would not be able to come out till I am alive.”

Raj thanked the exorcist and escorted him to the door. He and Sandhya then went to the garden and dug open the place where the ghost had said she was buried as a lady. Soon they found a corpse there and directly headed for the police station and narrated the whole incident to the police.

The person who had sold them the house was soon arrested as he got rid of the property after murdering his girlfriend. The next time they met the exorcist, he informed that he had liberated the ghost as she had now got justice and was completely at peace.
