Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
I'll Find You
“Wouldn’t he have a much better time spending the weekend with you guys?” Sienna whined, shoulders slumped. Mrs. Oh folded her arms across her chest, frowning down her nose at her daughter. Her thick glasses emphasizing the disappointment in her eyes. “Sienna, you promised him you would take him along on your last camping trip of the summer.”

The Curse at Sea
I was born in a small hospital, in a small seaside city in Maine. Basically with saltwater coursing through my veins. My parents both have lived around it their whole lives. I was an only child. My dad loved to fish, swim, and jetski. My mom loved to boat and surf. Every day after school once my homework was done I would run to the beach. Life was good. My hair was long and flowing freely, my t-shirt waving in the wind. I ran, as fast as my legs could carry me. I was skinny but short. People used to tease that there wasn’t much of me, just skin and bones. I never let it bother me. I ran to the ocean, just as I always do that day. That, dark day. When the clouds rolled in suddenly like the set of a horror movie. The air turned still and stale. The wind, silent. I was there, I saw it. I couldn’t bear to tell anyone, I don’t think they would believe me. But, I saw it. I wish I hadn’t. It stuck to my mind, affecting my very soul. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t eat. I guess I have to tell you what happened now, we have come this far.

Erie Islands
On a section of the world secluded from modern society there laid a cluster of islands that were surrounded by treacherous waters. On every night there would be a strange occurance taking place that the natural inhabitants of these islands knew all too well but had failed to prepare enough for it. During the night there are huge ferocious creatures that viciously prey on villagers that had the misfortune of being part of a long line of isolated native Erie Islands dwellers. The Erie Islands got the name once they became cursed by a witch named Jihenna long ago that died of thirst and starvation after Shiru, a leader of pirates at the time chased her deep within the woods of one of the largest of the Erie Islands. She had been taken captive when Shiru found out about her magic abilities but after utter abuse and neglect Jihenna was fed up, as well as at her limit on the brink of death since Shiru never bothered to properly feed nor tend to his captives. Once bodies started piling up in the ship barracks, Shiru ordered the crew to dump the bodies.

Sable Street
A neon glow floats above the city of Ekhaara at night, like a phosphorous halo pleading absolution for the citizens below. This town is a den for many a thing—some good, some not so good, but most with no alignment whatsoever. Its buildings exhale indifference, and its streets churn out life how machines churn out smoke and oil.

Bereavement Leave
Today started out relatively okay. I hadn’t seen it once. Not yet. The smell of rain lingered in the air, a forgotten specter amongst thick heat waves. Sweat condensed on my brow, and I compulsively wiped it with my headband as I continued walking to Maxine’s. Her mother’s two-story house was only a few blocks away now, but it swayed like a distant mirage, simmering with the rising temperatures. I had walked from my house to get there, and at this point, I was regretting my decision.

The Caretaker
When the sharp October air rustled the curtains open, when the clock struck 3:07 am, Babette's eyes snapped open as she sucked in a breath of terror. It’s grandma again, kneeling all of her weight atop her small chest, rocking side to side as if on a boat. She appeared grotesque, cadaverous. Glossy eyes, spidery white face-mold clinging to her nostrils and right cheek, mouth parted as if she were about to utter a secret. Babette’s neck was as stiff as wood, and her eyes refused to squeeze shut. She lay staring up at her, breath ragged. A fold of grey skin from her grand-mère’s forehead peeled and fell onto Babette’s own as she leaned downwards towards her ear, scent malodorous with dirt and death. Grandma rasped, gasping and sputtering, “Peregrine Hill…”

A Bluffer's Park Nightmare
Scarborough Bluffs has always been one of my favourite places to spend a day since I moved to Ontario 20 years ago. An ancient escarpment that runs 15 kilometres along the lake shore in Toronto's east end, it reaches the equivalent of 25 stories at its highest point. It has long been a sought-out destination for hikers, visitors and photographers looking to explore trails through wetlands, meadows and forests. The incredible scenic views from the top and beaches below make it the ideal destination for anyone looking for an escape from the concrete monolith of the city.

The Dark Serpent
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had strange nightmares. These are not like normal nightmares, these come in pairs and they only come every 4 years. These have been so real, that at one point, my girlfriend at the time had me taken to a hospital because, as she put it— I was being strangled! Yeah, that’s right. Not choking, her words to both the doctor and me were that I was coughing, struggling to breathe, and there was a shadow wrapped around my neck that kept getting tighter! To be honest I felt bad for the girl, especially after I broke up with her not too long after. That was right after the one which I am going to tell you now.

Not-A-Radio-Story
"Has she been doing it again?" I heard the orderly’s annoyingly raspy, whisper of a voice ask his colleague outside my door. They always talk like I’m not here, it’s like I am a ghost to them. The worst part is that blasted Radio I always hear playing from somewhere. Day, night, always playing… something.
