fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The Quarry
I stood on the edge of the quarry lake and stared down into the black abyss that reflected the world around me. Mountains that reached through the clouds, as if to grasp the sky. Trees huddled together, as if trying to escape the growing cold that fluttered down from the dark skies. It was beautiful, but haunting. A true winter wonderland.

The Turbidity of Love
Jaiko was just another man who fell in love. It was a normal midsummer day at the restaurant. Jaiko worked hard as a busboy before he started his last year in high school. He wandered out to the patio and collected dishes in various stages of consumption just after the dinner rush. He looked out across the street at another regular part of his day, the girl drinking her coffee while reading a book.

You Don't Recognize the bodies in the Water
"You don't recognize the bodies in the water" I was surrounded by trees because up ahead that's where I needed to go. I picked up where I had left off, but it wasn't long before I gave up. I didn't know if it was because I had given up early or I never left because both could have been true. I had no way of knowing for sure. Time didn't move, so the only thing telling me what time it was the sunlight. I reeled in my hook and looked at my watch. It had been exactly seven minutes since I had caught the one fish. It wasn't much of a fish, but in comparison to others in the lake, it was pretty nice in size.

Muddy Mystery
Part 1 I could feel him drag my limp body across the ground as I tried acting like I was still asleep. The road rash stung as I struggled keeping my composure. There was nothing that I could do but keep pretending I was unconscious so that I could make an escape. Where I planned on going was not something that I had quite figured out yet. How I was going to get away was something I did not know.

Shifting Tides
Shifting Tides The deck rolled beneath Ian’s feet as he got out of his bed, and his stomach answered in kind. If he hadn’t signed a three-year contract, he would have been off of this vessel long ago. Never before had he been in a more uncomfortable environment in his life, and he wanted to stand on solid land once more, more than anything else in his life.

Cold Box Lament
Content warning: this story contains passages some readers might find distressing. The Initial Shock I woke up a moment ago. I am cold. Very cold. Save for a very thin sheet covering my whole body, I am naked. I do not feel anything else on me. No earrings, no jewelry, no underwear. All is dark around me. I am also dizzy, and I have difficulties trying to figure out where I am.

Peace
It was summer. It was hot. We did, what we always do, when it is summer. And hot. We were kids, living in a small town, with not much to do. We were the ones, that were left over. The ones, whose parents could not afford to take us on a trip to the rest of the world. The ones, who did not know what it felt like, to sit in an airplane for hours, only to spend a week or two in a country, where everything seemed foreign. We were the ones that stayed home.
