fiction
Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
My ghost sister gets to have fun
Dorothea smiled wickedly. She lifted her elegant hands, joined them together at her breast, manicured ghostly fingertips lightly touching, and slowly, chest heaving in anticipated joy, she gently moved her joined fingers back and forth, caressing them in sheer delight. Her appetite and lust for mayhem and it's subsequent dark pleasure, had been whetted.

Blue Light
Heavy steam on the windows meant it was time to go. The temperature outside was dipping, and the lake outside had sheets of ice shattering into the shore. Even though I was in my classic flannel and beanie, my friends were all in the skin tight kind of dresses that score free drinks and less than sensible footwear.

The Zombie Apocalypse Pond
“I think we should check the aquarium and see if the zombies have left,” Jared says. I look at him sharply and say, “Are you kidding me? Have you already forgotten what happened yesterday? We nearly got killed by the horde we led into the aquarium, to take out those marauders.”

The Blood in The Water
Like slick oil, suffused on puddles in the gloomy glow of traffic lights, there was blood in the water. You couldn’t see it unless you were looking for it, and although Gabriella’s face was smeared with fresh tears, she did notice the strange tint to the lapping tides, if only in passing. She wasn’t going anywhere in particular; Gabriella was just willing the pain in her heart to diffuse into her body and become physical through the act of walking. An old man shuffled past her, so focused on the burdening task of moving at his age that he did not stop to notice Gabriella’s anguish. All he felt was envy as he watched her bronzed, toned legs carry her forward.

Seance
Candles sat in a large circle, surrounding the foursome. One spot remained empty, not for ghosts that AJ knew would not come, but for effect. The circle of light came together to form a double column, leading to the spot where three grisly murders occurred two centuries earlier. The candle flames furthest from the group jumped and sputtered. AJ looked up the stairwell. The cellar door remained closed, the towel he’d stuffed beneath it still in place. Except for candlelight, the cellar was absolutely dark.

The Letter
The middle-aged man entered his son's apartment, dread making the room seem darker than it could possibly be in the mid-afternoon. Anguish had aged him a decade overnight, stooping his shoulders better than a pallet of brick could have done over a lifetime. He wasn't sure what he expected, but what he saw didn't meet it; the apartment seemed in order, nothing destroyed, nothing vandalized. This was the last place anyone knew his son had been alive and normal. It shouldn't seem so commonplace.

The Search For Amusement
Day 14 of cruise. Boring! 13 days down, 22 days to go on this thirty-five day boring hell hole of a cruise ‘vacation’. On this very special trip from Sydney to Hawaii, I have had the honour of basically only seeing the ocean, lots and lots of ocean. Did you know it’s vast? Well it is! Never ending waters, just like my tears! I am so bored! I have barely seen my parents this entire time, just me and the sea. I do not know why they insisted on dragging me along on this ‘family’ vacation. They don’t even seem to want me here, they just want to relive their honeymoon. So gross! There is literally nothing for a teenager to do on this stupid ship, but my parents seem to think it is a paradise, I don’t even know what they do all day and I sure as hell don’t want to imagine all the gross things they have probably been doing without me. This trip sucks so much! I miss home so badly! I hate being here! I miss all my friends! I cannot believe how I have to spend my summer… my last summer before college! I don’t even have WiFi most of the time, like what the hell is that about! What kind of monsters don’t always have WiFi working?!? I’m so damn bored, I’m journaling for christ sakes! I’ve hit rock bottom! Thank God, it's only two more days till the next docking. Two more days till WiFi. I will call my friends, and I will go to the bathroom in a facility that does not make me seasick, that’ll be nice…. Well that’s pretty much it. Another day in the life of me staring at open waters all day. Till tomorrow, Journal, if my brain doesn’t turn to mush first.
