The Man with the Hook
The Origin of the Legend: The Man with the Hook

Today, urban legends, like TikTok videos, are everywhere and on everything, and there are endless trends for the same thing. As in the case of one of the most explosive legends, "The Hook."
This story has had a multitude of versions over the years. Its raw form tells of a couple who thought of doing what no other couple dared to do. Making out in secret for the hooligans at night until the radio tells of an escaped murderer with a hook hand recently seen roaming free in this place.
Since the couple were in the same place at the time, the girl wanted to return and for some reason the boy doesn't like it, but despite this, he agrees and they return home. But when they get home, they discover a bloody hook on the passenger door handle. Which certainly led to a very happy night of nightmares and sleeplessness.
This story has been told in countless versions and countless times, mainly by parents who wanted to prevent their children from making love. Although this legend is not exactly a perfect preventive measure, it did not prevent the legend from spreading like a corona in a pulmonary ward. Which apparently had a number of murders that were eerily similar to the story.
The "Moonlight Murders" was one of the series of murders in the "Lovers' Death Road" trilogy and were probably the midwives of this legend.
This series of murders took place in Texarkana and was limited to Arkansas and Texas. During 1946, it included at least eight cases, five of which ended in death. Which was carried out by the killer who earned the media nickname "The Phantom".
This killer, wearing a black bag, murdered couples in brothels who parked their cars at night. Which led to the fact that as soon as the rod arrived, the locals would gather in their homes following a night curfew that had begun there. To try to continue their lives until the morning.
Something that probably wasn't easy considering that at the time there was no newspaper or radio station that didn't cover the cases and their details. This killer used to make his late-night appearances at intervals of 3 weeks, with all of them ending with a gunshot, except for one case.
This case was also the first case that occurred on July 22, 1946. The guest stars in this performance were Jamie Holly and Mary Jean Larry who decided to spend the rest of the night in a place where no young couple would think of making love. This place was called Lovers' Lane. But their plan was interrupted after 10 minutes by a man with a white mask that looked like a grater's pillowcase at the Mandelbaum costume ball. He ordered them to get out of the car and after they did, he pointed a gun at them.
While the gun was pointed at them, the crippled man told Jesse to take off his pants and then hit him twice in the head, which luckily ended in shrapnel. But his partner was not so lucky. After her partner fell to the ground, she tried to escape towards a ditch that was in front of them. When she finally got there, the masked man who was chasing her told her to change course towards the road. Which probably made a lot of sense to her because she did. But while she changed direction, the man eventually caught up with her and sexually abused her with his gun before letting her escape again.
The identity of the killer will probably remain in the shadows forever, but it does shed light on many stories and cases that followed, including the man with the hook.
