The Legend of Nagamani (A Faith Transforming Story)
Nagmani

Chapter 1: The Origins
Many centuries ago in the culturally rich area of ancient India, there was a village that was known as Varanasi, the village was situated on the grance of the holy river the Ganges. This village which has a very rich culture and traditional back ground belong to a poor farmer named Arjun. Arjun had no wealth but he was wise and always so kind to everyone. He was a man, who was so fully occupied in agricultural activities that he put his existentialism in the welfare of his village community.
Nagmani was the gemstone and Arjun was a living legend whose life was connected with the backgrounds of the Nagamani which was believed to be the most powerful piece of gemstone in the world. Of old it was believed that the Nagamani was given by the serpent king Vasuki to mankind. The staff and serpent were declared to provide prosperity, wisdom and protection for those people who were worthy of receiving them. The Nagamani was said to be concealed somewhere in the villages and the idol was to be expected as soon as a rightful owner would be found.
Chapter 2: The Vision
For several nights in a row Arjun sat by the river, looking into the water and deep into his thoughts and one night, as he gazed, he saw a vision. Magically a gigantic cobra which had a golden gem in its hood stood before him. The cobra spoke a loud and distinctly historical like tone saying to Arjun, ‘You are indeed the one that is needed, the Nagamani has chosen you, the Nagamani is buried beneath the banyan tree that is in the center of our village, and with it, you will do good unto the people. ’
Arjun was surprised but felt privileged to have the vision and he told it to the elders of the village the following morning. They also, therefore, learned of the Nagamani legend and what Arjun was seeing was a message from the gods. Presiding over the banyan tree the villagers stood and looked at Arjun, who started to dig soil at the base of the tree.
Chapter 3: The Discovery
Many hours were spent in careful labor, when Arjun hit something solid with the edge of the spade. He didn’t dare breathe as he found a small golden chest hidden under the pile. Inside it were enshrouded by green velvet, the Nagamani was found. They say it was a glowing jewel that seems to have a source of light within it. The villagers moved back in surprise and shock when they saw the gem reflecting their eyes.
The Nagamani that was discovered also lead to a lot of development or wealth and fortune in the kingdom which was succeeded by a period of peace and tranquility. He ensured crops are grown, diseases are cured, and everyone was at peace as witnessed in Varanasi. Arjun who was considered a protector of the gem used the power of the gem appropriately by utilizing its divine blessings to affect the many.
Chapter 4: The Test
One day Arjun’s popularity increased so much that it came to the attention of a great sorcerer by the name of Vikram. Stepped by greed and ambition, Vikram wanted to get Nagamani for self purposes only. On the exterior, he was a simple passerby that entered Varanasi with the intent of misleading Arjun and the inhabitants of the village.
His sinister intention, still did not escape the eyes of people particularly those close to Vikram. The Nagamani started to wane, knowing the danger that it is in; and shone with less intensity with each passing day. When the clamour rose into somewhat of an insistent wheedling, the villagers sought Arjun’s counsel. After realizing that the gem was telling them something bad is going to happen, Arjun gets ready to fight Vikram.
Without any fear in his heart, Arjun went to Vikram and told him he was actually Roshan. The sorcerer soon was aware that his trickery didn’t work and then proceeded to attack Arjun with his black magic. But the Nagamani which buzzed in response to Arjun’s faith and courage released a brilliant light; a light that could protect him.
The light became intense and all encompassing of Vikram. The sorcerer who was to use it for more evil-doings got overpowered by the shinny and the power of the gem and had to surrender kneeling and asking for forgiveness. Arjun who was always good at heart forgiven Vikram and entreated the latter to stop being a bad person and change for the better.
Chapter 5: The Legacy
The troubled Vikram evolved out of this incident and from that day forward in the service of Arjun, he became Vikram’s guide. The Nagamani’s emanated a bright light, more so than before, to depict the victory of the forces of light against the darkness. Varanasi on the other side remained on the conduit of hope and unity.
Years passed by and Arjun become old he handed over the custody of Nagamani to the young generation of his family. The gem continued to be on the center of faith, knowledge and mercy and that has made its image to remain on influential symbol up to date.
The story of Arjun and the Nagamani became an ever-popular tale that was told from generation to generation. It served as a depiction of faith, dedication and the resilience of virtue among the people of Varansi as well as the other towns.
And thus was the story of Nagamani passed on from one generation to another; of the power of purity in the middle of the biggest evils and the belief that black would forever be chased away by white; light remained on the winning side.
Chapter 6 : A New Guardian
For many decades after that, in a small Indian village not far from Varanasi, there lived a young girl called Mira. Mira was kind-hearted, and she did not give up easily, and I knew this from hearing about her ever since. Since her childhood, she became an enthusiast and read various stories happened to Arjun and the Nagamani, at times, she used to dream about finding the Nagamani herself.
One sequence of events that pregnant Mira dreams one day, cautiously walking through the forest close to her house, she comes across an oldgrown trail. Following an unknown instigation, she went through the thicket to an open space where a great banyan tree grew. At it’s base, she could barely see a low glow shoot through the roots of the tree.
The girl breathed heavily and nervously took out a small wooden chest which resembled the one, described in the legends. Sree then goes into the palace and sees the Nagamani which shines brightly, and she is revealed to be pure inside as well. After taking the gem in her hands, she saw Arjun in front of her with the pride and warmth in his eyes.
Arjun’s words spoken to her, “You have been chosen, Mira. ” pinged in her mind. “The Nagamani also has powers and you should use it righteously and help people like the earlier kings who were benevolent. ”
Chapter 7 deals with spreading the Light, signifying the popularization of reason and humanitarianism.
Boosted by the new information, Mira came back to her native village and told everybody in the family and among friends. Moved by Mira’s bravery and her virginity, those who lived in the village became Mira’s supporters in anticipation of her becoming a guardian of Nagamani.
That is why under the leadership of Mira, the village developed well. She directed the energy of that gem to create peace, particularly in the provision of education, health and the needy in the society. The deceased’s leadership style was humble and friendly and this made her beloved by every person who interacted with her.
Mira did not stop at her village level but went round other neighboring villages with her reforms. The people of the area gradually adopted concepts such as love, charity, work and unity which had a domino effect on the neighboring regions.
Chapter 8:
That’s why, moving from the themes of the previous chapters to the new object of discussion, namely The Eternal Flame, the book continues to be interesting.
In this way, with the period of years, the history of Mira and the Nagamani expanded and developed further. The gem as the symbol of hope and perseverance becomes a beacon for the following generations of people. The story of Arjun, Vikram, and Mira became the emotional experience of the people, the story about the triumph of good over evil and the need to remember one’s principles.
The Nagamani, that was once a myth for many had turned into a symbol of hope and the flame of hope burnt bright in the hearts of the faithful ones. And thus, it was believed; the Nagamani became an embodiment of hope for ever hopeful heart that exists in the world, encouraging it to be a better place to live in.
At the end the stories were not the one with the power, but the believers of the power the stone possessed. With faith not swaying and filling their hearts with kindness and selflessness they did change their world and showed that the real power is not in gold, but in the soul.
