A Mother’s Unconditional Love That Transcends Death

Forever And Always...

By Sharepreneur MomPublished 11 months ago 7 min read

There’s a special kind of magic in handwritten letters. The way the ink curves and loops, the faint scent of paper, the smudges where the writer paused to think—it’s as if a piece of their soul is pressed onto the page. For me, letters became a lifeline to my mother long after she was gone. They were her way of reaching through time, of holding my hand when I needed her most, and of reminding me that love doesn’t end with death.

My mom was the kind of person who believed in the power of words. She was a writer at heart, always scribbling in notebooks, jotting down thoughts, or leaving little notes around the house. “Just in case,” she’d say with a wink, as if she knew something I didn’t. It wasn’t until after she passed away that I discovered her secret: a collection of letters she had written to me, hidden in places she knew I’d find them when the time was right.

What I didn’t know at the time was that my mom had been sick. She hid it from me, shielding me from the pain and worry, and instead poured her heart into these letters. She wrote them during the quiet hours of the night, when the house was still and the world was asleep. She wrote them with tears in her eyes and love in her heart, knowing that one day, I would need her words more than ever.

My mom always called me her “one and only daughter.” It was her term of endearment, her way of reminding me that I was her greatest pride and joy. Even in her letters, she used those words, as if to make sure I never forgot how much I meant to her.

The First Letter: Graduation

The first letter I found was tucked inside a book on my shelf, a book she had given me years ago. It was just after my college graduation, a day that should have been filled with joy but felt hollow without her there. I was packing up my dorm room when the book fell off the shelf, and a sealed envelope slipped out. My name was written on the front in her familiar handwriting, and my heart stopped.

I opened it with trembling hands, and there it was—a letter from my mom, written years ago, addressed to me on this very day.

“My dearest TongoZ, my one and only daughter,

If you’re reading this, it means you’ve graduated. I knew you would. You’ve always been so determined, so full of fire. I wish I could be there to see you walk across that stage, to cheer louder than anyone else, and to embarrass you with my tears. But even if I’m not there in person, know that I’m there in spirit, clapping the loudest, crying the hardest, and bursting with pride.

Life is going to throw so much at you—joy, heartbreak, success, failure. But no matter what, remember this: you are enough. You always have been, and you always will be. Don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. And when things get tough, just imagine me standing beside you, whispering, ‘You’ve got this.’ Because you do. You always do.

Love you to the moon and back,

Mom”.

I cried for hours that night, clutching the letter to my chest. It was as if she had reached through time and wrapped me in a hug. Her words were a balm to my aching heart, a reminder that even though she was gone, her love was still very much alive.

The Second Letter: My Wedding

The second letter came on my wedding day. I was getting ready in the bridal suite, surrounded by friends and family, when my best friend handed me a small box. “This was in your mom’s closet,” she said. “She left it with me years ago and told me to give it to you today.”

Inside was a delicate necklace—a locket with a tiny photo of her inside—and another letter.

“My darling TongoZ, my one and only daughter,

Today is your wedding day, and I can only imagine how beautiful you look. I wish I could be there to help you into your dress, to fuss over your hair, and to tell you how stunning you are. But even though I’m not there, I want you to know that I’m with you, in every step you take down that aisle.

Marriage is a journey, my love. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it. Choose love, even on the hard days. Choose kindness, even when you’re angry. And never stop laughing together. Laughter is the glue that holds everything together.

Wear this locket today, and know that I’m walking with you, holding your hand, and cheering you on as you start this new chapter of your life. I’m so proud of you, and I love you more than words can say.

Forever your biggest fan,

Mom”

I wore the locket that day, and as I walked down the aisle, I could almost feel her beside me, her hand in mine, her voice in my ear. It was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life—joyful and heartbreaking all at once.

The Third Letter: The Birth of My First Child

The third letter came when I became a mother myself. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and in awe of the tiny human in my arms. My husband handed me a box that had been sitting in the attic for years, labeled “For TongoZ, when you become a mom.”

Inside was a baby blanket she had knitted and another letter.

"My sweet TongoZ, my one and only daughter,

If you’re reading this, it means you’re a mom now. Welcome to the club—it’s the hardest and most rewarding job you’ll ever have. I wish I could be there to hold your hand, to tell you that you’re doing a great job, and to spoil that baby rotten. But even though I’m not there, I want you to know that I’m with you, in every sleepless night, every messy diaper, and every precious moment.

Being a mom is about love, patience, and a whole lot of coffee. You’re going to make mistakes, and that’s okay. What matters is that you love that little one with everything you’ve got. And trust me, you will. You’ll love them in a way you never knew was possible.

Wrap this blanket around your baby, and know that it’s filled with all the love I couldn’t give you in person. I’m so proud of you, and I love you more than words can say.

Forever and always,

Mom”.

I wrapped my baby in that blanket, and as I held them close, I felt my mom’s presence in the room. It was as if she was there, whispering, “You’ve got this.”

The Fourth Letter: When I Needed Her Most

The letters didn’t stop there. Over the years, I’ve found them in the most unexpected places—tucked inside a recipe book, hidden in a box of old photos, even slipped into the pocket of a coat I hadn’t worn in years. Each one arrived exactly when I needed it most, as if she had known what I would need and when.

One letter came on a particularly hard day, when I was feeling lost and alone.

“My dearest Tongoz, my one and only daughter,

I don’t know what’s going on in your life right now, but I know this: you’re stronger than you think. You’ve always been a fighter, and you’ll get through this, whatever it is. Just take it one day at a time, and remember that I’m always with you.

Life is messy and complicated, but it’s also beautiful. Don’t forget to look for the beauty, even on the hard days. And when you can’t find it, know that it’s there, waiting for you.

I love you more than words can say, and I’m so proud of the person you’ve become.

Forever by your side,

Mom”.

A Love That Transcends Time

My mom’s letters are more than just words on paper—they’re a testament to her unconditional love, a love so strong that not even death could separate us. Through her letters, she’s been there for every milestone, every heartbreak, and every moment of joy. She’s been my guide, my cheerleader, and my constant reminder that I am loved.

I don’t know how she did it—how she knew exactly what to say and when to say it. But I do know this: her love is a gift that keeps on giving, a light that continues to shine even in the darkest moments.

So, to my mom, wherever you are: thank you. Thank you for the letters, the love, and the lessons. Thank you for being my mom, my friend, and my biggest fan. And thank you for reminding me that love never dies—it just finds new ways to reach us.

I’ll keep looking for your letters, Mom. And I’ll keep writing my own, just in case. Because if there’s one thing you’ve taught me, it’s that love is eternal, and it’s always worth putting into words.

Forever and always,

Your one and only daughter,

TongoZ
