Growing up, I always dreamed of having a sister. But watching so many sisters around me constantly fight made me realize something: Maybe I’m lucky I never had a biological one. Instead, I’ve had friends, some closer than any sibling could ever be. And maybe, that’s even better.

What do you think, dear readers?

I’ve always had a soft spot for mystery shows. Funny enough, did I ever mention my name is Gizem? Yes, just like the word for 'mystery' in Turkish!

Today, I want to take you on a little trip through three series, each centered around the complex, mysterious bond between sisters. Let’s start with the first one!

ECHOES

It’s been a while since I watched this mini-series, but its haunting storyline still lingers in my mind. I honestly don’t know why I never wrote about it earlier, maybe because it recently resurfaced in my thoughts after watching two other series about mysterious sisters.

Echoes begins with one of the twin sisters, Leni, going missing. Or so you think… 😉

It’s difficult to say much more without spoiling the whole story, so I’ll keep it vague. What I can say is that it’s filled with psychological tension and surprising twists. Though the IMDb rating is just a 6, I personally enjoyed it. If you like thrillers and family secrets, this one’s worth a shot.

THE BETTER SISTER

I discovered this series just last week and finished it in a day and a half! (Okay, it could've been a single night binge, but I didn’t feel like staying up all night.)

Jessica Biel used to be one of my favorite actresses, and after watching this, I remembered why. She stars alongside Elizabeth Banks as two sisters whose relationship is far more complicated than it first appears. Even by the end of the series, I couldn’t decide who was truly “the better sister.”

And oh my ladies!

Let’s take a moment to appreciate Gabriel Sloyer as Jack Rodriguez. Isn’t he way too handsome? I mean… seriously. 🔥

Have you seen it? I’d love to hear your thoughts. And if not, what are you waiting for? Hit play!

SIRENS

🎬Streaming on Netflix

Watch trailer: Sirens – Official Trailer

Another one of those "watch it in one sitting" type of shows.

Sirens introduces us to two completely opposite sisters. The younger one chooses a life that many might dream of, but when I asked myself if I’d want to live like her... my answer was no.

We all carry trauma. But when we grow through it, should we really ignore the people who supported us in our darkest times? I think not.

To me, a true ‘monster’ is someone who turns their back on the very person who once reached out to save them and when you watch Sirens, you’ll understand exactly what I mean by that.

Final Thoughts

Each of these series offers more than just mystery, they also explore identity, loyalty, pain, and the unbreakable (and sometimes unbearable) bond between sisters.

If you’ve watched any of these, let me know what you thought. And if you haven’t, maybe this weekend is a good time to start.

Let’s talk sisterhood, real or fictional. 💌
