This is one of those Time Loop situations you might have heard about.

So if you haven’t seen Palm Springs on Hulu yet, and you somehow also missed the caption above this then stop reading....

Anyway, I’m here to discuss the time loop. I rewatched the movie 3x. Sober. Then Drunk cause I think better when I’m drunk. Then drunk again.

I still can’t figure out how long Nyles was in the time loop. But if I had to guess I’m gonna say roughly 3 years. Long enough for him to forget his job and “other life”. Long enough for him to find out that no matter how many times he commits suicide he won’t get out.

But while drunk, I also discovered that since they DID get out they had no memory of their time stuck in the loop. So that means that each character does the exact same things they did that day.

Sarah still slept with her sisters fiancé the night before, tried to drink away her guilt and forgets her maid of honor speech.

Nyles still spends the day at the pool. May or may not save Sarah by giving a speech himself. And they may or may not hookup after. Since Nyles was stuck in the loop and into his routine when the film starts we don’t actually know what he did THE FIRST DAY other than apparently wear a tux to the wedding.

This means with his memory wiped. It’s entirely possible that Sarah and Nyles don’t even speak. The end of the film is also the end of their.....dare I say it........entanglement?

Nyles may get drunk and find out misty is cheating on him and then leave to go back to his life. Sarah would probably drive back to Austin and try to drink herself to death? I don’t know tbh but did you see her messy apartment? That girls life just seems sad all around.

The film is set up like a happily ever after right? But it’s actually the complete opposite. Its actually super fucked up.

Which begs the question, if they knew their memory would be wiped and they wouldn’t end up together.....would Nyles still have gone with Sarah? Or would he have stayed in the time loop where she still existed and he could replay a fun night with her for the rest of eternity?

Also let’s say by some twist of fate they DID hook up and start dating after the wedding, after exiting the time loop. The means Sarah still slept with her sisters fiancé and hasn’t told a single soul. Will she ever tell Nyles? Would the guilt of the night and then meeting the next night just ruin their relationship before it began?

But also let’s backtrack a bit....Sarah fully intended to leave both Nyles and Roy in the time loop. She wanted out. She didn’t care about either of them. Made no attempt to get them all out. Just herself. That selfish bitch didn’t care. The only reason Nyles made it out at all was cause he followed her there. And then poor Roy was stuck in there alone with only a voicemail to get him out. After all they put that guy through......they still couldn’t wait for him.

I love what an absolute disaster this film is. It’s perfectly imperfect. I might even get drunk and watch it a 4th time.
