Fans of The Young and the Restless have been cracking jokes about how an actual baby was not being utilized when characters were holding or talking were talking to Dominic Phillip Newman Abbott Chancellor. Some viewers thought it was COVID regulations but babies were being used on General Hospital for Bailey Quartermaine/Louise Jones and The Bold and the Beautiful for Hayes Finnegan.

There was some chatter about the show not knowing what ethnicity to choose as Dominic's bio dad is biracial and the mother caucasina, A real boy or girl debuted this week in the role of the child was born on August 27. Viewers are grateful as for more than 3 months there was only a blanket to indicate that he was real. No name has been given for the infant who is portraying this unique addition to the most prominent families in Genoa City but his history is rich.

Dominic Chancellor's rich history

Abby Newman (Melissa Ordway) and Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) are the adoptive parents of the tike while Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) donated his sperm and Mariah Copeland ( Cameron Crimes) was the surrogate mother. The extended family is pretty colorful with Tucker McCall (Stephen Nichols) being the biological paternal grandfather and his mother Katherine Chancellor (Jeannie Cooper) the paternal great grandmother.

Yolanda "Harmony" Hamilton was Devon's biological mother which makes her the wee lad's grandma. Neil Winters (Kristoff St. John and Drucilla Barber Winters ( Victoria Rowell) adopted Devon so they were also grandparents (both are deceased). Lily Winters Ashby is the daughter of Neil's brother Malcolm Winters (Shemar Moore) and Drucilla making her the blood aunt of the little boy.

Nina Webster (Trisha Cast) is the mom of Abby's husband Phillip Chancellor IV making her a grandma and Jill Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) who was married to Phillip III is also a grandma. Thus far Dominic is related to the Grand Dame of Genoa City and the woman who fought with her for years and stole her husband.

The Young and the Restless: Newman and Abbott connection

Abby is the daughter of Victor Newman Sr. (Eric Braeden) which makes him the maternal grandfather. Her mother Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) is the maternal grandmother. Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) are great great uncles and great aunt to the new addition. Nick Newman (Josh Morow) and Victoria Newman Locke( Amelia Heinle) are Abby's siblings as is Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). This makes them uncles and aunt to Dominic.

Faith Newman (Reylynn Castor) is the child's cousing through adoption as well as a blood aunt because her half sister was the surrogate and Neil's son Moses Winters whom she is dating is a blood cousin. Faith's brother Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) is the baby's blood uncle because mariah is his half sister. Abby is his aunt which makes Dominic his cousin as well. There are many other connections but the last ones we will acknlwledge are Johnny Abbott and Katie Abbott who are the children of Billy and Victoria. They are Dominic's adopted maternal cousins as well as his paternal second cousins.

The Young and the Restless: Keeping it real

If we went on with the list practically everyone residing in Genoa City would be related to this child through blood, marriage, or adoption. Now that Chance has returned home spoielrs have not said what will happen or even if his marriage to Abby will survive. Viewers who may balk at a white baby in the role should realize that Devon is half white and with Mariah being fully Caucasian they chose the right child as he is 3 quarters white and only one quarter black.

If the show wants to imitate real time then they chose the right child as the odds are against the baby being dark complexioned. Y&R is keeping it real and not ignoring Devon's ethnicity. It's wonderful to finally see flesh and blood instead of an empty blanket and now viewers aer wondering if Chance has any issues due to his previous assignment and whether or not he can be a husband and father so stay tuned.
