The Missed Opportunities in the Tomb Raider The Legend of Lara Croft Anime Adaptation
Spoil Free Review

I am sure that I am not the only one who grew up with Tomb Raider. Whether it was the game or the movies this character was an icon. When I found out they were making an anime Tomb Raider I was thrilled. Netflix has been doing shockingly well with recent anime so my hopes were high to see Lara Croft in an anime.
As soon as the show dropped I put it on right away excited to see what was created. You can already assume by the title I was disappointed by the show.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Storyline: Follows heroine Lara Croft as she explores new territory.
Info: 8 Episodes
Genre: Adventure, Thriller, Fantasy
Rated: TV-14

I thought the beginning of the first episode was the peak of this series. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Thrilling adventure, and unrealistic escapes. The animation reminds me of the animated DC shows and movies. I would say it falls more on the cartoon animation style than the anime style. With that being said the animation wasn’t bad but it wasn't the best either.
The story wasn’t my favorite. It was basic and slow. I gave up after episode 2 and it took me months before I finally said I should just give it another try and finish it. The story semi picks up but it isn’t something that caught my attention.

My biggest problem with this anime is how they portrayed Lara Croft. I remember her being a strong female lead, who has had traumas but pushes forward. However, in the anime, she seemed more like a daddy-issue girl. She could fight which was cool, but she just seemed like a boring character learning to ask her friends for help.
Lara Croft inspired me as a young girl and disappointed me as an adult. This seems to be a trend I have been seeing more. Strong female leads can't just be strong, they have to be quirky, loveable, and create their own issues. Why couldn’t we have just had a badass character?

My Review: I can’t say this is a bad anime. It was entertaining, however it was also disappointing. They are coming out with a second season in 2025 that I don't think I will be watching. They could have done so much more with the animation, story, and characters. This show feels like when you bite into a cake and find out it's stale. You are so excited to have cake and then you take that bit and your heart sinks a little. You might finish the slice because it's still cake but It’s not good. Weird annology but hopefully you get what I am saying.
I’d be curious to hear what you thought. Did you like the Lara Croft anime?
Thanks for reading!!

Exploring the Unique Appeal of “Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon”
After I got done explaining how amazing anime is because of the deep storytelling, character development, and incredible animation, I started to watch Reborn as a vending machine. I have been binging Attack on Titan and I needed a break. I am halfway through the final season just getting my heart smashed into pieces and I needed something to help cleanse my brain. I ended up finding The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting, which will easily be one of my favorite anime of the year. I still wanted to watch something light-hearted and remembered hearing about this anime last year so figured I would give it a watch. I laughed to myself watching episode 1 because I just got done explaining the masterpiece of Attack on Titan and Solo Leveling and why I love the stories in anime, and I am now watching a show about a vending machine being alive.
The Unexpected Caregiver: The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting
I am going to call this genre wholesome gangsters. What is not to love? Tough, badass, killers who are wholesome babysitters. This show reminds me of a mix of the ways of the house husband and buddy daddies. If you haven’t seen either of those you are missing out. These anime show that everyone can live a normal life and turn over a new leaf.
See you later

It was awful wasn't it? Such a pity cos I love Hayley Atwell. I gave up after episode 2 or 3. Just amazed that it got renewed way before the likes of Terminator Zero and Twilight of the Gods. Oh, have you seen Sakamoto Days yet? That's quite brilliant!
Aww man, sucks to hear this one was a little disappointing. I love Lara Croft and feel like the potential for a Tomb Raider anime is so high, but alas :(
