Exploring the Unique Appeal of “Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon”

Spoil-Free Anime Review

By animetipzPublished 11 months ago 3 min read

After I got done explaining how amazing anime is because of the deep storytelling, character development, and incredible animation, I started to watch Reborn as a vending machine. I have been binging Attack on Titan and I needed a break. I am halfway through the final season just getting my heart smashed into pieces and I needed something to help cleanse my brain. I ended up finding The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting, which will easily be one of my favorite anime of the year. I still wanted to watch something light-hearted and remembered hearing about this anime last year so figured I would give it a watch. I laughed to myself watching episode 1 because I just got done explaining the masterpiece of Attack on Titan and Solo Leveling and why I love the stories in anime, and I am now watching a show about a vending machine being alive.

Of course, even this show didn’t let me down and was very entertaining to watch.

Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon

Storyline: After dying in a traffic accident, I find myself standing near an unfamiliar lake. My body won’t move, I can’t hear my voice, and when I try to shout in confusion, words that I never expected come out! I-it seems I’ve turned into a vending machine… How am I going to survive some fantasy world’s dungeon like this?!

Info: 12 episodes

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Isekai

Rating: TV-14

I got super into Isekai anime last year. I think of them as palette cleansers. When you are watching an intense show or just need a break from the real world they are the perfect distraction. I finished titles like “Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill” and Banished from the Heroes Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside” At some point I will need to put the best Isekai anime I have watched into a list.

If you aren’t familiar with Isekai it is a sub-genre of fiction that features a person or people transported to another world, such as a fantasy, game, or parallel universe.

I have found the longer the title the better the Isekai. The title explains it all but this show still caught me off guard. Most Isekai don’t have the best stories or have basic characters. This show however is extremely creative, has great characters, and has shockingly great fight scenes. The storyline was entertaining and I hope they create a season 2 to continue it.

Vending machines are very popular in Japan, with around 3.93 million vending machines. They have vending machines for drinks, toys, hot soups, and anything else you can think of. It was fun to see the different features and vending machines that were used in this anime.

Even though we can hear the vending machine's thoughts the characters around him can only hear a handful of his catchphrases. I loved that the characters make an effort to understand him and have friendships with something that can't talk back. They take care of each other, yet they fully understand each other.

Ratings:

IMDb:6.3/10

Anime-Planet: 3.4/5

My Review: This was a fun and creative anime. If you need something to watch to keep your mind off of something this is the perfect anime. It is not one of the best anime I have ever seen but I am glad I watched it and it got my spirits up enough to continue watching Attack on Titan, So I’d say it served its purpose well and I will be on the lookout for season 2.

Have you seen Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon? Do you like Isekai anime?

Sakamoto Days: The Life of a Retired Hitman

Right off the bat, I am a sucker for this genre. I am going to call this genre wholesome gangsters. What is not to love? Tough, badass, killers who are wholesome now. This show reminds me of a mix of the ways of the house husband and The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting. If you haven’t seen either of those you are missing out. These anime show that everyone can live a normal life and turn over a new leaf.

This Week’s Anime Recap: Series I Completed

This is a new series that I am going to do all year because I am insane. It would be fun to review the anime I finish each week. Believe it or not, I finish more anime than I have time to write about so these will be brief recaps.
