Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Penguin episode 4

The Batman: Part II can give the version of DC's Clown Prince of Crime that many fans desire to see on the big screen, something Joker: Folie à Deux was unable to do. Many people consider The Batman to be one of the greatest live-action Batman movies ever, ranking it with Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight as the two greatest Batman movies ever made. As the Batman universe grows, the high caliber of that first film has persisted, as evidenced by HBO's The Penguin series, which demonstrates the franchise's potential.

With the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, filmmaker Todd Phillips recently concluded his tenure with DC, despite the success of the Batman world. The film was a sequel to the critically acclaimed Joker from 2019, which made over $1 billion at the end of its global run. Unfortunately, Joker: Folie à Deux is a contentious movie that tells a completely different tale than anticipated, which has angered both reviewers and viewers. The Joker from Batman: Part II will now take the stage as the Joker sequel has been a huge box office failure.

The Joker of Barry Keoghan Now Has Even Greater Expectations

Barry Keoghan only made a brief appearance at the conclusion of Batman, hinting at what fans can expect from his Joker in a follow-up. Following the release of the Batman movie, Warner Bros. Discovery posted a deleted scene in which Robert Pattinson's Batman visits Arkham Asylum to seek assistance from Keoghan's Joker in order to deal with the Riddler. This provided additional information on the character. With the villain now playing a role akin to Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, that proved that Batman and the Joker had a history together in this planet.

The Joker in 2019 was a huge hit, taking home awards and shattering box office records. Expectations were very high for Joker: Folie à Deux, and since the film has disappointed most people, the next live-action Joker faces a significant challenge. Given the failure of Joker: Folie à Deux, Keoghan's Joker already had to contend with being overshadowed by Heath Ledger's interpretation of the character and Phoenix's fan-favorite turn in the role. It is anticipated that the legendary villain would change his ways in Batman: Part II.

The Brutal Joker Is Subtly Set Up by the Penguin

The Penguin acts as a link between Batman and the follow-up. The primary function of the series is to follow Oz Cobb, played by Colin Farrell, as he gains power and demonstrates how Gotham City fills the power void created by Carmine Falcone's passing, but it accomplishes much more. The Joker, played by Keoghan, hasn't made an appearance in The Penguin and shouldn't, but thanks to Sofia Falcone, the villain is now far more terrifying than he was in his brief appearance in The Batman.

Sofia ended up in Arkham, where Keoghan's Joker had resided for a while. Episode 4 of The Penguin revealed how terrifying her stay in the famous DC Comics location was. After being horribly tormented at Arkham, Sofia underwent a negative transformation and emerged a darker version of herself. This closer examination of Arkham in The Penguin demonstrates the danger of Keoghan's Joker. The Joker in The Batman - Part II would undoubtedly be more thrilling than Folie à Deux if he turns out to be even as vicious as Sofia.

The Joker Everyone Wanted in Joker 2 Could Be Barry Keoghan

The Joker: Folie à Deux conclusion is the most contentious aspect of Phoenix's most recent role as Batman's primary antagonist. Joker: Folie à Deux completely upended the Joker franchise after the first film's conclusion, which laid the stage for Arthur Fleck to fully embrace his role as the Joker in the follow-up. Arthur struggled with his decisions throughout the majority of the film before coming to the conclusion that the Joker was always a creation of his imagination. That infuriates many who trusted him, such as Young Inmate (Connor Storrie), who murders Arthur and turns out to be the real Joker.

The Batman: Part II can bring back to the big screen the Clown Prince of Crime version of the Joker from DC Comics that Joker: Folie à Deux avoided because Arthur Fleck died before he could fulfill the Joker's potential. The Joker sequel's primary flaw is that Arthur Fleck's villainous side is never fully shown. Keoghan's Joker arc in The Batman - Part II can revolve around leaving Arkham and causing chaos, which is what everyone believed Joker: Folie à Deux would have done, after assisting Batman, as demonstrated in the deleted scene.
