The Hype vs. Reality of Suicide Squad Isekai
Spoil-Free Anime review

I was beyond hyped when I first saw the trailer for Suicide Squad Isekai. I had just gotten into the Isekai genre and had binged through so many, so not only was this anime in a genre I loved but it was also the Suicide Squad! If you have read my blog “I worked in a comic book shop for a week” You would know that I grew up in a family of geeks. I loved the suicide squad before they became popular in their movies. I love both of the suicide squad movies, by the way. What could go wrong with this anime? I was counting down the days until it was released and watched the first few episodes as soon as they dropped. Did it live up to the hype? Let’s talk about it.

Suicide Squad Isekai
Storyline: In the crime-ridden city of Gotham, Amanda Waller, the head of A.R.G.U.S., has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These Super-Villains are sent into an otherworldly realm that’s connected to this world through a gate. It’s a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies — an “ISEKAI”! With lethal explosives planted in their necks, there’s no running or hiding, and failing the mission means a one-way ticket to the afterlife! Can Harley Quinn and her crew conquer this perilous ISEKAI realm?! Brace yourselves for the pulse-pounding saga of the elite task force known as the “Suicide Squad” as they embark on a jaw-dropping adventure!
Info: 10 episodes
Genre: Isekai, Fantasy, Superhero
Rated: TV-MA

Harley Quinn steals the show in everything. Even if she is just a side character, she will steal the show. I thought they did an amazing job with her character's design and mannerisms. What did they do to the Joker? I thought the Jared Leto Joker was the worst we had seen until now. His design was bazar and he seemed to be completely sane. He just seemed like an emo boy who didn’t get enough hugs as a child, not the demented and disturbed Joker from the comics. I was glad he was not in the show much.
The other characters and their designs were spot on. From the main squid squad to the special appearances they nailed every other character.

For me, they fell flat with the storyline. With the amount of Isekai I have seen they always find a way to be entertaining even with the most basic concept. You know the story fell flat when an anime like Campfire Cooking in Another World is My Absurd Skill or Farming in Another World, A show just about farming was more entertaining. They had the perfect characters, a genre that gives you unlimited possibilities and they made the most basic fantasy with it. War, princesses, a betrayal I saw a mile away, and plot holes I still don’t understand.

Ratings:
My Review: Was it still entertaining? Yes, but it didn’t live up to the hype. I felt as if they could have made a masterpiece and it ended up being a crayon drawing. With anime becoming more mainstream we are seeing a lot more companies try to get in on the trend. Netflix, Disney, Max, and now DC have created anime. However, we are seeing the rushed quality, poor storytelling, and short series that just seems like a money grab. It is only 10 episodes so it isn’t much of a time commitment if you want to check it out, just know it will not be the best anime you have ever seen. I hope if they come out with a season two, they work on the animation quality and give us more of an engaging storyline.
Side note: The ending song made me cringe so hard. I couldn't look away at the horror before my eyes.

The Heartwarming Influence of a Cat: My Roommate is a Cat
Is this just an anime about a guy finding a cat? Yes, it is but this anime is one of the most wholesome and heartwarming anime I have ever seen. It is a comedy but be ready to have your heartstrings pulled.
The Demon Detective: Akuma-Kun
I felt as if I was watching a version of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Akuma-Kun was the quirky observant detective like Sherlock and Mephisto III was the empathetic, organized, and annoyed friend like Watson. Mephisto III is a half-demon who keeps Akuma-Kuns alive and communicates with the clients. Each episode is a mystery the two of them solve, With an overall storyline connecting at the end.
Bye for now!
