YouTube is truly a world of its own. Whether your goal is to learn a new skill, participate in a discussion, or access new information, YouTube is empowering to creators and viewers alike. However, like all worlds, there are corners that go unnoticed, where communities thrive but are rarely shown in the spotlight. With racial injustice at an all time high, it is especially important right now to amplify Black voices and listen to their stories. Giving your attention (and subscription) to diverse perspectives is a simple yet highly effective way to exercise anti-racism. Black art matters, and when you support a Black Youtuber, you are supporting someone's dream, passion, and in some cases, livelihood. Here are 5 POC Youtubers who are unapologetically taking the platform by storm.

FOR HARRIET

Kim from For Harriet opens every video with the cheeky and iconic line "How are you? I'm great, thank you so much for asking!" As a black feminist, Kim is committed to exploring and celebrating black femininity. She delves deep into politics, professionalism, and pop culture, and highlights where black women and girls fit in our society. After being dissatisfied with corporate America, Kim built her platform as a space for her and other black women to be seen and heard. Kim is an accomplished content creator, having held interviews with professors and activists at the top of their fields, such as Dr. Brittany Cooper and Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. She also created the For Harriet Grant for undergraduate women, and is giving back to her community in a sustainable way. For non-black women, For Harriet is a highly informative and insightful channel to learn about black femininity, and the ways we must show up for our black sisters.

NAPPYHEADEDJOJOBA

Ti, the woman behind Nappyheadedjojoba, has been a Youtuber for a decade, specializing in social commentary, fashion, beauty, and hair care. Over the years, Ti has shared her beauty hauls as well as her skin and hair care routines. Her video addressing her hair growth journey is beneficial for those with coily/textured hair. Don't let the beauty content fool you, though! Ti has been unapologetically vocal about racism and problematic behaviour in the beauty community and in society. She hosts a Saturday Night Live (Stream), addressing political and social issues that concerns black Americans. Ti started Project: Exodus, dedicating content to emigrating from the United States. She also collaborates with other Black Youtubers who have already left the country, and gives them an opportunity to share their stories. Through this series, Ti raises awareness to the alarming lack of safety Black people face in America, while providing resources for her black audience members who are looking for a safer future.

KAT BLAQUE

Katherine "Kat" Blaque is a Los Angeles-based Youtuber, illustrator, and content creator. Kat is also a transgender, polyamorous, sex-positive black-American woman who began making videos as a form of self expression when she was 15. Before dedicating herself to Youtube full time, she went to school for animation and did public speaking at colleges across the United States. Every week, Kat tells all with a drink in hand in her True Tea series. Standing on her decorated set in the corner of her bedroom, Kat shifts between two cameras and shares her unfiltered perspective on racism, polyamory and dating, sexuality, Youtube culture, and personal growth. Her confidence is refreshing and her 'internal monologue' style of commentary marks her unique brand of individualism on the platform.

THE ARTISAN GEEK

Hailing from the Netherlands, Seji of the Artisan Geek is a true gem in the otherwise white-dominated Booktube community. Seji is committed to exploring diversity in Literature and broadening horizons in a multitude of genres. Bookworms around the world can discover their next favourite read through Seji's book reviews, hauls, and monthly wrap ups. Throughout her two-year career on Youtube, Seji has had the opportunity to hold "book chats" with established authors such as Alexandra Chang, Elizabeth Gilbert, and Greg Brooks. By reading intentionally, Seji gracefully holds a space to discuss systemic racism, and how it is reflected in Literature. For those who love horror, the Artisan Geek will be hosting a Read-a-Thon called Fortnight Frights between October 18th to the 31st, where readers will be exposed to the most diverse thrillers that would otherwise go unrecognized.

Welcome aboard the pirate ship! Harriyanna Hook is a cartoon lover, college student and actor who shares her critiques of the entertainment industry with her viewers. She had humble beginnings on Youtube, with videos originally consisting of vlogs, TV show reviews, dancing videos, and nail art tutorials. Harriyanna's funky style and vibrant personality still shine through every upload. Now her channel has evolved into commentary, specializing in nostalgia and family entertainment. Harriyanna takes off the rose coloured glasses to expose racism and social issues in the most beloved TV shows from Disney and Nickelodeon.
