A Filmmaker's Guide to: Spencer Tracy
In this chapter of ‘the filmmaker’s guide’ we’re actually going to be learning about literature and film together. I understand that many of you are sitting in university during difficult times and finding it increasingly hard to study and I understand that many of you who are not at university or not planning on it are possibly stuck of what to do, need a break or even need to catch up on learning film before you get to the next level. This guide will be brief but will also contain: new vocabulary, concepts and theories, films to watch and we will be exploring something taboo until now in the ‘filmmaker’s guide’ - academia (abyss opens). Each article will explore a different concept of film, philosophy, literature or bibliography/filmography etc. in order to give you something new to learn each time we see each other. You can use some of the words amongst family and friends to sound clever or you can get back to me (email in bio) and tell me how you’re doing. So, strap in and prepare for the filmmaker’s guide to film studies because it is going to be one wild ride.

5 Reasons To Watch: Space Sweepers
If you are an avid (American) Netflixer like me, you have worked your way through all the standard shows that most people watch, and have started to get into all that Netflix has to offer. I'm speaking of course to foreign films and other languages.

'That Thing You Do' 25 years later
That Thing You Do appeared in theaters in October 1996 and this year is number 25 since the film's was released. It’s hard to believe that a quarter century has gone by for this gem of a movie. I am going to celebrate the entire year because the film as well as the title song, are among my all time favorites. I was not even aware of this movie when it first debuted and I only learned about That Thing You Do! years later from my daughter who told me what a fun movie it was. I rented it on DVD several times and also watched it at least 8 or 10 times on cable. I can’t help but dance every time the theme song is played.

Movie Review: 'Silk Road'
From 2011 to 2013, you could hardly engage in internet content without hearing about Silk Road. Silk Road was the pirate, dark web, website where users were able to obtain just about anything they desired. Pioneered by young entrepreneur, Ross Ulbricht, Silk Road was a fiefdom, an 'international waters' on the internet, the wild west of the World Wide Web.

Representation in Romantic Movies – From Modern Classics to Hidden Gems. Top Story - February 2021.
Valentine’s day may have passed, but the love hasn’t. The romance genre (especially rom-coms) has for a long time been targeted towards white, straight, women, and has thus been, in the mainstream, focused on white, straight, love stories.

The Lore of Calypso and Davey Jones in The Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
Growing up, one of my favorite movies of all time was the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. I grew up with Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann being my heroes and aspiring to be just as genius as Captain Barbossa or Jack Sparrow. One of my favorite stories within the franchise is the idea behind Calypso and Davy Jones.

COMPARISON OF MAGICAL WORLDS OF HARRY POTTER AND FANTASTIC BEASTS
In 1997, when the first book of Harry Potter was published then no one thought that one day it will create a history from where a new world, a magical world will be born which will be admired and wished to live within by the people in the future.

Movie Review: 'The Blackout'
The Blackout is a charming movie filled with characters who are smart, intelligent and romantic. This tiny, low budget, drama about friends gathering for a party in a New York City apartment just as Hurricane Sandy is hammering the City is filled with heart, romance, humor and genuine heartfelt emotion. I mean this in the kindest way possible, the movie is reminiscent of a millennial take on The Big Chill, minus the pretension and the killer soundtrack that outshines the actual movie.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, from the novelette by Lev Grossman (The Magicians) and screenplay by him, debuted on Amazon Prime video a few days ago. Its ratings on Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes are 6-7, but I think it's much better than that, well over 9. It's said to be a Groundhog Day (the holiday and the movie) meets Valentine's Day (just the holiday), but it's more than that, too.
