Movie Review: 'Deadly Illusions' is a High Camp Thriller
If Cinemax made a lifetime movie, that movie would be Deadly Illusions, a trashy soap opera with just enough trash to reach an R-Rating. Deadly Illusions stars Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis as Mary Morrison, a bestselling author with a seemingly perfect life. She has wealth, a doting husband, Tom (Dermot Mulroney at his most bland), and two adorable moppets who don’t have much to do with this movie other than being plot devices.

Cruella 2021 Review
Cruella the 2021 film based off the main protagonist from the popular Disney 101 Dalmatian franchise was released last Friday May 28 in theaters or for premier access on Disney+. This movie tells the backstory of Cruella, where she came from and how things led to become what they did. I am a huge fan of Cruella De Vil and I actually dressed up as her for Halloween in 2020. So of course I bought the film on Disney+ with the premier access. I had been waiting forever to see it and it was well worth the wait! This article will include spoilers so if you have not seen the film yet please do not read further.

Anarkali
We watch many movies these days, thanks to all the streaming services that make our life simpler by bringing all the content we want, right to our fingertips, but hardly a few impress us to stick on to our memory forever. However, occasionally these TV channels do surprise us with certain movies that we already love, call it sheer luck, to get us glued to our cozy couches even through the ads, like good old days. Yesterday was one such day where one of the Malayalam movie channels surprised me with Anarkali. Anarkali, a 2015 Malayalam release directed by Sachy, tells us the story of an Indian Navy officer Shantanu (played by Prithviraj Sukumaran) who gets expelled from his job when he falls in love with his senior officer’s daughter Nadira (played by Priyal Gor). The movie takes us through Shantanu’s life, his struggles across timelines during his wait to unite with the love of his life Nadira. This is only written from a fan-centric perspective, where I put down my opinions and thoughts about the movie while yours can vary drastically. However, I see myself doing this on other Malayalam movies as well, to help my fellow friends to make a decision when they are confused as to ‘What Malayalam movie to watch next?’ Let's now get back to Anarkali…

Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Exciting New Entry into the MCU
Last month, we were given the first teaser trailer for Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and it made Marvel fans lose their minds. It’s the fans’ very first look at the new superhero and it could not have come at a better time. This is the MCU’s first Asian protagonist as well as its first martial arts film. This is just one of the many reasons it will be one of the most exciting movies to come in the fourth phase of the MCU.

‘Citizen Kane’, ‘Paddington 2’ and the Oversimplification of Film Criticism
This weekend, a 2017 review of the film Paddington 2 was added to Rotten Tomatoes, dropping its perfect score from 100% Fresh to a weak 99%. This follows the recent addition of a review from 1941 to Citizen Kane‘s score, dropping it from the 100% club. Because they both claimed a 100% score with over 100 reviews under their belt, there was a multitude of internet discourse over the title of “Greatest Movie of All Time”. I’m here, not to discuss the 245 Certified Fresh Reviews for Paddington 2 or its potential status as the GOAT. I’m here to discuss the one negative review and the ill-trend in film criticism that it represents.

Exploring the Art of Transcendence w/ Films
Have you ever watched something that felt so real, a scene that somehow seemed to engulf you wholly, transporting you from wherever you were sat watching it, and brought you right there, to that exact moment? Have you felt as though you could feel all the emotion, chills, pain, or even fatigue, yourself? I definitely have, and these three films are what struck me like lightening striking a tree: Atomic Blonde¸ Blade Runner 2049, and The Shallows. The Oxford Dictionary describes the word “transcend” as to “be or go beyond the range or limits of (something abstract, typically a conceptual field or division)”, and specific scenes in these three films do exactly that. So, my blog and I are here to highlight these key moments of transcendence, and hope you feel all the chills and all the pain – and I mean this in the nicest and most amazing way possible, of course!
