Sweet Magnolias Season 2 - A Netflix Series Review
Excited for season 2 of 'Sweet Magnolias', the story didn’t match the atmosphere or storylines of the first season.

Nobody ever knows what’s going to happen in life. Write a good journey.
Season 2 of Netflix's Sweet Magnolias was released in 2022. Continuing from where the events of the first season left, a small town in South Carolina continues to live their lives. They continue to learn about love, family, and careers.
I fell in love with Sweet Magnolias when I watched it over the summer last year. Sweet Magnolias is a feel-good series that encases an invigorating message for all. After the nail-biting climax of season 1, I have been waiting months to see what would happen. Excited for season 2, the story didn’t match the atmosphere or storylines of the first season.
Joanna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley define friendship. Their friendship is the best part of the series. Their friendship is the best part of the show. It feels real. The women made tasty margaritas whenever they met up for their girl's nights. Each facing their own battles, they teach audiences how to pick themselves up in the worst of times.
The trio delivered well-acted monologues, finding the mindset of their characters. They dealt with tough emotions, especially Headley. Although they live contrasting lives, we endure similar dilemmas.
My favorite segments involved these women, but they weren’t given enough attention this season. Other credits include Logan Allen, Annaliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Justin Bruening, Jamie Lynn Spears, and Chris Klein.
Side characters, like the teens, are focused on. Sweet Magnolias is about the adults, not the teens. Their storylines were given an equal share in the first season, but writers decided to give them more attention. We see enough teen drama, so watching this show was a break from that.
The teen storylines drew out the story. We’ve already seen these teen romantic cliches in most media. I couldn’t tell if this series decided to change its focus to a younger audience. No, this series is for adults.
Some storylines were just dropped. For example, I was hoping that Noreen would be given a full episode with the birth of her baby. Editing was not the best. Scenes would come to a halt and pick up on a new storyline.
One segment that did not belong in the series and deserved its own show entirely was the whole adoption scenario. Not to mention, it concluded with a silly twist to a character who has already had enough attention on themselves.
Season 2 of Sweet Magnolias was too sugarcoated. Lessons repeated and repeated. In each episode, someone always gets a monologue about how they have learned or what they’ve overcome. Character reactions didn’t feel realistic enough.
The locations were nice. Your hometown plays an important feature in everyone’s life. You have your favorite restaurant, the park, or a place where you like to meet with friends. Filming took place in Covington, Georgia. The town felt like a real town. We all have a story from our hometowns.
Sheryl J. Anderson created Sweet Magnolias for women audiences. Anderson should have generated more focus for each storyline, instead of just one. The second season wasn’t as strong as the first season. It didn’t feel complete to me.
Friendship is a strong theme. Don’t ever take advantage of it. No matter what obstacles we face we will overcome them. That’s what life is all about.
For the next season of Sweet Magnolias, I would like it to focus more on the women. Sweet Magnolias is still a series that you need to binge on Netflix. It is an underrated series.
