Running Point Season 1 Ending Explained

What Kate Hudson's Basketball Team Will Do Next

Here is what transpires at the conclusion of Running Point season 1 and how it will affect a possible Running Point season 2 now that Netflix's Running Point is available. All ten episodes of Kate Hudson's new basketball comedy series have been released on Netflix, and the popularity of Running Point has not been hampered by its mixed reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. In the Running Point season 1 finale, the different Gordon family members' separate storylines collide, taking the show's distinctive premise in a variety of unexpected directions.

In Running Point, Kate Hudson plays Isla Gordon, the daughter of Jack Gordon, the former president of the Los Angeles Waves. Her brother Cam Gordon names Isla as the new Waves president after he is committed to a rehabilitation center due to a scandal. Along with her two brothers and the rest of Running Point's cast, Isla must lead the struggling basketball team to success while overcoming the sexism of the basketball industry. Although the conclusion of the show demonstrates how the two series differ, Running Point has been likened to the Apple series Ted Lasso.

What Takes Place When Running Point Ends

The Waves eventually make it to game seven of the playoffs under Kate Hudson's Isla Gordon, who has triumphed over numerous obstacles throughout Running Point. However, the Waves lose, ending their season earlier than anticipated, much to the surprise of many. Every member of the Gordon family becomes upset as a result, but Isla is particularly distressed because she is still in shock over her fiancé leaving her a month ago. After the game, Isla talks to Waves head coach Jay Brown in the deserted stadium, and the two make out.

Cam Gordon is a surprise when Isla returns to her office at Waves headquarters later. In Running Point episode 1, Cam was placed in a rehabilitation center; it appears that he was released at some point during episode 10's events. Cam appears to have returned to his previous position, which may be a reaction to the Waves' devastating loss. In the meantime, Sandy and his ex-boyfriend reconcile, Jackie is welcomed into the Gordon family, Travis stays in his new rehab center, and the Waves start getting ready for the upcoming campaign.

How Does Cam Gordon See the Waves?

The Cam Gordon reveal occurs just before the credits roll, leaving Running Point season 1 on a huge cliffhanger. Although it isn't stated clearly, the fact that Cam is seated in Isla's chair suggests that he has returned to his previous position with the Waves. This is unexpected because he was the one who, while he was away, appointed Isla to the role. Although Sandy and Ness initially attempted to remove Isla from the role, none of the Gordons were pleased with Cam's return, and none of them anticipated that he would leave rehab so quickly.

After their defeat, Cam might be reclaiming the Waves by addressing some of the shortcomings of Isla's leadership. Despite having a better season than in previous years, Cam might have returned due to sexism and the crushing defeat. Another possibility is that Cam always intended to come back, whether or not Isla was successful. The team will surely be significantly impacted by the Cam scandal and the shortcomings of his previous presidency, creating an intriguing dynamic for Running Point season 2.

Will Lev and Isla reconcile, or will she start dating Coach Brown?

Lev breaks off his engagement to Isla in Running Point episode 9 because she is too focused on her job. It is revealed at the beginning of Running Point episode 10 that Lev has been gone for a month and that there is no indication that he will be coming back. This remains true until the very end of the finale, when Isla unexpectedly decides to kiss Coach Brown following the devastating defeat in game seven. This could set up an interesting love triangle for Running Point season 2, with Isla being torn between her former fiancee and her new love interest.

Isla discovers that she will never forget the losses more than the victories.

In their brief exchange, Isla talks about the devastating loss with Coach Brown before they make out. Isla says she feels like a failure in spite of the season's achievements. Brown goes on to say that you always remember the losses more than the victories in both basketball and life. Isla quickly grasps this viewpoint, which helps her see why she feels the way she does.

This connects to almost every character in Running Point, making it one of the central themes. While Travis struggles with his drug addiction and Dyson with his basketball performance, Sandy, Ness, and Isla all deal with this in their relationships with their respective partners. Each member of the cast needs to focus on this going forward because the characters in Running Point are always criticizing themselves instead of acknowledging their accomplishments.

The True Significance Of The Finish Of Running Point

Although there are many themes in Running Point, Isla's leadership of the Waves is one of the primary ones. Her attempts to emulate her father, Jack Gordon, are successful, but she soon learns that this is not the right approach. Rather, Isla needs to contribute her own style of leadership. The basketball players claim that they used to feel like work horses, but Isla treats them like people and prioritizes their welfare over the team's success. Running Point contends that this strategy is the most effective way to approach leadership, even though it occasionally makes Isla's life more difficult.

How Season 2 of Running Point Is Set Up by the End

Running Point season 1 ends with a number of unresolved storylines, many of which could be carried over into a second season. The primary plotline that will be carried over concerns Cam's leadership of the Waves, with Isla clearly at odds with him over his role following the cliffhanger in season 1. In the meantime, following their romantic encounter in the finale, Isla and Coach Brown's possible relationship could also be developed. One of Running Point's most unsolved stories is that of Travis Buggs, whose time in rehab could also be examined.
