My Review of "The Out-Laws"
If you like Happy Madison movies you're in for a treat.

The Out-Laws is the latest 2023 comedy to release exclusively on Netflix. If you're familiar with Happy Madison movies you should be familiar with what you're going to get with this movie. They kind of fall under a formula that we're all aware of. It's sort of watching Hallmark Christmas movies there's a sense of comfort when watching them.
In this movie we start off with the couple of Owen and Parker. They're about to get married but Owen has not yet met Parker's parents. Parker's life is kind of a stark contrast to Owen's. She seems like a free spirit with everything going for her whereas Owen is a by the books geeky kind of guy. It's an odd dynamics that we kind of see in all Happy Madison movies.
Soon as you know it, Parker gets a last minute announcement that her parents have confirmed that they'll be at her wedding. This overjoys Owen as he wants to build a loving relationship with them. Little does he know that they're not the kind of people that he expected them to be.
It turns out that Parker's parents are actually famous bank robbers. They use Owen to help them score a bank heist and kind of frame him for the job.
Though Owen is a big nerd it kind of helps him figure things out and the point of the movie is to try to figure out how he's going to save the day. Again this is kind of the common trope with Happy Madison movies. Still this works much better than most of the Happy Madison movies.
First off the cast does a great job in keeping the movie light and amicable. I love the relationship between Owen and his future in-laws. They absolutely hate him and we kind of have an understanding why as Owen can be a bit much at times.
The fish out of water situation with Owen being placed in a bunch of dangerous situations is well done for the most part. They play to a lot of laughs but I admit there's a few spots that fall a bit flat. I guess you can't win them all.
I love the concept to the movie where Owen knows right away that his in-laws are trying to frame him and use him for a bank robbery. You'd think this concept would fall flat after the first half but they were able to keep going and the laughs kept on coming.
I was kind of impressed with the practical stunt work in this movie. Usually for these kind of low budget comedies you don't really get high budget or big effects. They have this chase scene in this movie that I thought was done spectacularly and didn't really expect it in this type of movie. I thought they would have went through CGI or something but they did this movie justice with this scene.
Still it's all about the laughs and I understand not everyone will be on board with this type of humor. I think that if you're a fan of the Happy Madison movies you're going to have a ton of laughs. It's a really fun movie that is pretty well crafted. This one in particular feels like it was edited and cared for by the right people whereas a lot of Happy Madison movies at times feel like they're pasted together without much care.
Overall, I had a ton of fun with this one and that's all that counts. Those that are fans of dumb zany humor will love this movie. We haven't had a good one like this in a bit. I'm not sure why either because I wouldn't imagine them being expensive to make. I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. I could potentially watch this one again because it's so fun.
