My Review of "The Bear: Season 3"

A little less chaotic as last season but still has some intense moments.

The Bear: Season 3 is one of my hotly anticipated seasons to watch this year. I have been catching up with the last 2 seasons with no effort. This show has been top notch from start to now. It's such a pleasure to watch this series but this one is starting to fall into familiar territory. That's not necessarily a bad thing but there are certain things that feel a little expected more this time than previous seasons.

Of course last season ended off with a heck of a cliffhanger with Carmy ruining the relationships with pretty much everyone around him. Well that's what it seems like. We already know that's not the case because Sydney already went through a similar situation in the first season only for them to pretty much forget about it in the second season. That's not exactly how this one starts off.

Carmy is a bigger character because he's the owner of the establishment. He's the guy that's running the show so when he starts burning bridges it's a bigger deal. The staff will not want to deal with him. Yet we still have a little of that element in this season because they're all still one big dysfunctional family. We still see this dysfunctional family working together but we see some chips in the armor.

Richie's relationship is definitely strained because of the events of the previous season. This is kind of exacerbated in this season and it's a pretty interesting dynamic. There's some comedy in this dark situation they're in but for the most part you want them to get along just like in a family but they are who they are.

Sydney is also going through a huge dilemma that you expect her to figure out by the end of the season. Instead they let that problem brew for the long term. Throughout the season I wondered how they allowed her to just not make a decision for so long especially since the restaurant business is so fast pace and cutthroat.

We have some smaller stories throughout the season but they don't feel as significant as they did in the previous seasons. At least in the previous season they took the whole episode to explain a minor character's story. We still have one beautiful story with Tina. The more they play her story the more I want to hear more. It's too bad they don't have more for her in this series. She could possibly pull off a spinoff and it would be successful.

The main story here is that the restaurant is back up and running. They go into financial crisis because Carmy is basically Carmy. He wants to build a fine dining establishment but he's not willing to make any compromises. This is a huge strain on the staff and the pockets of the business. You start to wonder if he's doing the right thing or if he's off his rocker. There's a ton of evidence that he's off his rocker. Then again he knows what it takes to be a highly regarded restaurant and has proven time and time again that he can do it.

There are so many small little things that make this show a whole. I love the ensemble cast even though some of them aren't highlighted as much as they were in the previous seasons. The beautiful food and logistics behind the way they craft their restaurant business is utterly fascinating.

Overall, I really enjoyed this season and can't wait to see the next. The cliffhanger this season isn't as big as the previous seasons but it still works. I hope they get more of the minor characters involved and keep the top notch writing in tact. I have to give this season an 8 out of 10.
