My Review of "Spectre"

The follow up to Skyfall that collaborates all of the previous Daniel Craig bond film into one.

Spectre is the follow up Bond film to Skyfall. It came out in 2015 and man that's a long time to keep all of the Bond stories in your head. Luckily I'm doing a Bond marathon so they're somewhat still fresh in my head. This movie basically brings all of the bond films together to an end. That is we thought it was the end back then, we didn't know there was going to be another one.

This movie starts out in Mexico during the day of the dead. Bond seems to be doing some sort of espionage assignment that ends up blowing up a whole block of the neighborhood. Little did we know, he was actually acting on his own. He claimed to be on vacation and so happened to fall into unfortunate incidents.

We get a much more suave and debonaire Bond this time around. He knows what he's doing and he's very cocky while doing what he knows best. His romantic encounters are also really odd. I don't know if he's got some sort of weird pheromone that attracts the women but he gets away with a lot. In today's day in age you'd think that his advances are quite predatory so it's kind of odd to watch now. It's surprising how a few years can change a global opinion on things.

Still that was the way it was back then and that was the appeal to this fictional character. It's still a movie so you know that all of it is fantasy so don't pay too much attention to those details and you can have a good time.

This movie is aptly named as there are several ghosts that are chased throughout this movie. We have the ghost of the old M that had tasked Bond to go to Mexico in the first place. Although she had died in the previous movie she still has a small presence in this movie. We see a lot of call backs to older Bond movies not only from the Daniel Craig movies but from those before him. They pay a lot of homage to the Bond franchise for fans of the series.

I was a little bit worried in the beginning of the movie because they were adding more shaky camera to a lot of the action sequences but that is later remedied as the camera work became more smooth and subtle.

There are a ton of beautiful locations in this one as well. Although, I wouldn't say this movie is as visually appealing as Skyfall. This movie harkens back to more of the Quantum of Solace movie. It's somewhat more similar to that movie as this movie pulls the other movies into this one huge climax in the third act.

The way that they managed to piece all of the movies together was pretty nice. It was smooth and I was able to piece everything together however I don't think you really need to really watch the first two movies to keep up with what's going on. Skyfall might be something you need to watch though.

In that movie they started talking about the dismantling of the double o division of MI6. This movie continues with that storyline and it works very well with the end result. Though predictable it was still satisfying.

I would have liked for the more minor characters to play a bigger role in this movie. There was a ton of potential there to have them really act as a great team but that would have lost the core element of a Bond film. It would have felt more like a Mission Impossible movie.

Overall, I surprisingly liked this movie. I had some apprehensions to this movie. There was no way they were going to top Skyfall (still my favorite of the bunch so far). They didn't quite get to that level but they were able to have a fun action movie where Bond was able to be Bond. By the way they didn't have overtly in your face advertising in this movie!! I have to give this one a 7 out of 10. It is fun but more fun if you've been keeping up with the Daniel Craig series. Now onto the last one!!
