My Review of "Silicon Valley: Season 4"

I finally get to catch up with Silicon Valley. It was worth the wait.

I've been a fan of Silicon Valley for quite some time but I haven't been able to catch up as the Canadian streaming service Crave only limits this TV series up to season 3 for those that do not subscribe to their premium service. I finally took the plunge recently and paid for the premium service as it seems as though the pandemic quarantine seems to be lasting way longer than I anticipated.

The Silicon Valley series has just recently completed their final 6th season in 2019. This makes me question why Crave limited non-premium members to only 3 seasons as they've allowed other more popular HBO shows unlimited streaming. This series is so good that it was worth the purchase though.

In the 4th season the guys have finally full control and ownership of their startup company Pied Piper again. In the previous seasons Pied Piper's claim to fame was that it had developed a compression format that was unmatched. The problem was that they were a small company and nobody was going to give them the time of day. They all speak in tech talk and weren't able to explain to regular people why it would be useful to them. So over the last few seasons they have had to pivot their company and sell the company to multiple owners.

The new owners and CEO's of their company would pivot the direction of their company in many ways that the guys didn't agree with. In this season they discovered that they could use it as a video chat application as there was some venture capitalist interest in this application. The problem with this pivot is that Richard, the leader of the company didn't want to go in this direction regardless of it's success. He wants to move use their algorithm for bigger and better things.

The thing is, we should already know that Richard is a very petty person. He's very egotistical and very petty. He always seems to be getting worse in each season. It makes us as the audience question his motives. I didn't know whether he was trying to get out because the video chat wasn't his idea or if he actually had a legitimate idea. In fact this season we see how he is starting to become more similar to his arch nemesis Gavin Belson.

Gavin is the CEO of this gigantic tech corporation called Hooli. When he first started he was just like Richard and the guys creating a storage system for the masses. He lost his way and became about the money rather than benefiting the good of everyone.

In this season we see a metamorphosis of Richard's character. It even gets so bad that Jared has questions about his allegiance to Richard. This is a huge departure because Jared has always been the puppy dog that follows Richard no matter what he did.

All of the characters have big things happen to them and it's pretty much like all of the other Silicon Valley seasons. They would always have some luck only to sabotage themselves with their own egos. There are constant circling problems throughout this series and that's part of the fun. Everything that happens in Silicon Valley affects all of the tech companies and I feel that this is very realistic in life as well.

Even though the ego's in this show are extremely exaggerated there's a small element of truth to them and I couldn't help think that the situations that happen in this show were based off of real events.

Overall, this season was great. I binged through the whole season in 2 days. They aren't long episodes so it makes it pretty easy to binge but I was captivated from start to finish. I have to give this season an 9 out of 10. I can't wait to watch the next season tonight!
