My Review of "Silicon Valley: Season 5"

This season makes it feel like the series is ending.

Season 4 had a very unlikely partnership between Richard and Gavin. The two enemies allying with one another to produce a new Internet. The only issue was that they had two different motives in mind.

There was a ton of stuff that changed hands in season 4 and that's what made that season so good. I couldn't tell what was going to happen but I knew there were big changes happening. Like I mentioned before in my previous review, all of the changes that happen in Silicon Valley affect other companies like a domino effect. Each big change that was about to happen would have sever consequences to all parties.

The cohesiveness of the tech industry really make all of the big changes mean so much. In addition to all of this craziness we still have battle of egos. Each one of the CEO's and Venture Capitalists are all scheming and conniving. They're all terrible people so you don't know how they're going to react to the changes.

It's starting to become a common theme that Richard will get everyone in trouble because of his own ego. Every time he gets angry because his precious ego has been bruised he does something ridiculous that we know will affect the company severely. In this season, this ongoing charade wasn't as fun because of how far Pied Piper has come. It's not just a tiny little company anymore and he still can't get over the fact that his stupid antics are affecting all of his workers and his company.

The antics between Gilfoyle and Dinesh helped keep this season stay strong though. I know that their competition between one another has been a recurring theme but they're always able to up the ante and stay relevant to today's social climate.

One of the things missing this season is the absence of Erlich. He has always been a fun character on the show with his stupid pompous confidence. His character was somewhat replaced with Jian. I really didn't like this update to the season. The way they handled the disappearance and replacement was smart and interesting but I just can't stand Jian.

I think it's because every time Jian loses (when he should lose!) he always seems like he's still winning. He's the only character in the series that I feel doesn't ever really loses despite his ego. He gets away with so much. Not like the way Big Head gets away with things. When Big Head gets away with things it's fun because the guy is an idiot.

When Jian gets away with things it's because of his conniving sneaky ways. It's almost like he's rewarded for his bad behavior and karma doesn't touch him. I know there are some losses with him but I never feel bad for this guy at all.

That could be just what the writers are looking for. Jian could be a huge enemy at the very end. I have no idea but this season feels like it's just about to end the series. The way it ended could have ended the whole series but there is a final season 6. I'm not quite sure how they're going to pull off the season 6 unless the guys lose absolutely everything and start from scratch again.

Overall, I did still enjoy this season very much. The start of the season was a bit rocky but they got their bearings soon after. There is a whirlwind of an ending and it is very satisfying when it happens. I have to give this season a 7.5 out of 10. Very enjoyable and they could have ended it off here. I can't wait to see what they have in store for the last season.
