My Review of "Seinfeld: Season 8"
The wacky and wild part of Seinfeld really starts to show in this season.

Seinfeld: Season 8 came out during the years of 1996 and 1997. This season is a bit of a departure from the rest of the seasons. It feels like they revamped the show as there are a lot of changes in the show. They still have the same sense of quirky dark comedy in there but there are some noticable changes. Even the actors seemed to have had some makeovers themselves that make it feel like this season happened a few years after the last season.
There's a noticeable weight loss by Newman, Elaine and George's hairstyles have been changed dramatically differently. Even the wardrobe seems to be a bit different from the previous seasons. Either there was a big shift in popular culture at the time or something was going on.
They start to play around with the usual music that we hear from show. At times it feels as though the studio started really meddling with the show. Some of the musical changes feel a little off-putting.
The show also does not have an opening monologue by Jerry anymore. Instead there are skits with the characters of the show doing everyday things. Admittedly this kind of works better for the show but it is a pretty big departure of what we're used to.
I really noticed the change in tone of the show though. We still have the dark quirky comedy feel of the show but now we have more wacky situations. This show actually dives more into the weird and absurd and I felt this was kind of weird because the rest of the seasons had a grounded nature to the absurdity. This season isn't afraid to go into the supernatural and unexplained and sometimes this works to the show's benefit. Though hardcore fans of the show might feel it's a little off.
Despite all the crazy changes this season has added to the show I thoroughly enjoyed it. This brought up some really memorable laugh out loud moments for me. Namely the episodes: "The Little Kicks", "The Abstinence" and "The Summer of George".
"The Little Kicks" episode is so funny. This is the episode where Elaine invites George to her office party. She loses all respect from her co-workers when they discover she dances horribly. Though she believes that they disrespect her because of her friendship with George. This dominos into a situation where George gets into a relationship with one of her co-workers because he's seen as a bad boy.
"The Abstinence" episode is hilarious in a Simpson's kind of way. We have a situation where George's partner will not have intimate relations with him because she believes she contracted Mono. He then starts to occupy his mind with other things and discovers that the situation has made him smarter. To contrast this, Elaine has a similar situation and she seems to be making her dumber. Very funny stuff.
Then we have "The Summer of George". I love this episode because it pays homage to so many of the things that have happened throughout the seasons to bite George in the butt. I also love the fact that they make famous actress Raquel Welch seem like a bad ass. The whole situation is so bonkers as it starts off because in a previous episode George had been traded from the Yankees to a fried chicken franchise. He wants to make the most of his time off so he tries to help Jerry with his love life. Meanwhile Elaine gets entangled with a psycho co-worker and Kramer is mistakenly awarded a Tony award.
Overall, this season is a big departure from the rest of the seasons but this isn't an entirely bad thing either. The episodes are a lot more wacky and crazy. You really don't have a sense of how far they will go because it feels like they can go into extremes now. I thoroughly enjoyed this season despite so many new things being added to the mix. I have to give this season a 9 out of 10. It was just very innovative and fun. I would watch this season over again.
