My Review of "Only Murders in the Building: Season 3"

This season is just as good as the other 2 seasons. If you liked the other two you're going to love this one.

Only Murders in the Building: Season 3 has finally wrapped up. We finally got to see who is behind the murder of Ben Glenroy. If you've been following the series you're probably in love with our main three protagonists already. These three have a chemistry that I hope to continue seeing for a long time.

Last season ended with a cliffhanger. Oliver was finally given directorial duties to a high profile Broadway play and of course someone dies in the middle of the play. This happened to be Ben Glenroy who is the big star of his new production. This season starts off with that death just as last season started off with the cliffhanger from season 1.

I love what they did with this one though. Ben actually lives but then dies again later on in the season. This show has so much fun playing with our emotions and I have a feeling they get a kick out of knowing our reactions. It's really fun because Ben is expected to be the murder victim but they make it as though he might not be the one who dies. Well for a bit... It's sort of like that funny sequence in Hot Tub Time Machine when you know the elevator guy is supposed to lose his arm and they tease it throughout the movie.

In this season we have a bunch of returning faces. There's not too many to choose from as many of the people in the building have probably left from all the deaths in the building. At least we still have the really eccentric ones. They really play up to their eccentricities in this show because they know the viewers know who they are by now.

They have a few red herrings along the way that are really quite fun. They play them off as possible murderers and each one of them of course have a good motive to kill Ben. Well, Ben is a laughably horrible person. I loved how much of a terrible person he was. Why did I still love his character even though he was such a jerk? I guess it comes to the great writing of this show.

Surprisingly, all three main characters, Oliver, Mabel and Charles have love interests in this season. Each one of them are pretty entertaining and play upon the their personalities. Of course they have to suspect their love interests of murder as it's their nature to do so.

The dialogue in this show is still laser sharp and laugh out loud hilarious. I particularly like all of Oliver's backhanded compliments and snide comments. When the three are together it is pure comedy gold. You never want to leave their conversations as everything can become a joke and you just want to hear how they're going to insult each other next.

If you know the special guest cameos that make it to the show you'll be delighted at the tongue in cheek jokes that they make with them. They play along with the guest's old movies and TV shows. It's really so fun because these guest cameos are pretty big celebrities.

Mystery-wise I thought this was on par with the other seasons. They have a lot of misdirection but admittingly it starts to become abundantly clear who the murderer really is and why they did it. I don't know if I can blame the show for following the formula that they've rehashed over and over again. It's still entertaining but it's starting to become obvious. Though we're not only here for the mystery.

Overall, I had a really good time with this one. Just as much fun as I had with the other seasons. It's like getting to see your best friends again and you never want to leave. I loved all the guest cameos and all the wonderful colorful characters. I have to give this season a 7.5 out of 10. I'm really glad this one ended the way it did because it looks like we're going to have a season 4!
