My Review of "Disenchantment: Season 4"

What's new under the sea of Disenchantment? Apparently not too much but there are a few nice reveals.

Disenchantment: Season 4 has recently been released on Netflix. I have to admit I wasn't an immediate fan from the first few episodes of the first season. Eventually this show got its lets and I started to become invested in the characters. Pretty soon I became a fan and after season 3 I wasn't sure what they were planning to do in this new season.

It starts off pretty much after the end of season 3. Elfo is captured by the ogres, Luci has been murdered and Bean is in hell. Meanwhile Zog has been institutionalized in some sort of mental ward. Bean's mother had hatched a plan to marry off Bean to Satan but this doesn't go to well.

I guess you can kind of guess that everyone gets out of their sticky situation early on in the season. There wouldn't be much of a season if that's how it ended. However, there are a few interesting reveals with our main characters that had me shocked. Elfo's history had me on the floor laughing. It's just hilarious how they had set it all up.

Luci's was more of a heartfelt escape. Throughout the series they've always portrayed Luci as a bad guy with a heart of gold and he's still that guy. This time he doesn't fool us with any of his antics so things sort of became a little predictable. Then again regardless of the predictability of his character some of his antics were still pretty funny.

They finally get rid of Zog's incessant honking. I'm so relieved that they did because it was getting a little too annoying. He later follows an older storyline that they did in a previous season. There he finds out that his family may have another member. I found this story to be a little too played out. It felt too similar to the Elfo reveal they did a few episodes earlier. Maybe the timing of it really ruined it for me. However this new cast member does add a few laughs with their fellow sibling later on in the season.

As for Bean, I don't think anything has changed. She's still that neurotic self deprecating character that she was in the other seasons. I don't particularly gravitate to her character. In fact I used to hate her character up until the second season. This season kind of reminded me of why I didn't like her in season one.

Some good points of this season is that her mermaid love from season 3 does make a few appearances in this season. They are very brief and very predictable but its nice to know that the show has a happy ending planned for her later on.

As always this season ends in an abrupt cliffhanger just as all of the other seasons before it. Although it's not as bleak of an ending as the previous ones. It kind of feels like this show is coming to an end regardless of only having 4 seasons under its belt. There doesn't seem to be a lot more content left for the show to reveal. I could be wrong but it really feels like they're coming to an end very soon.

Overall, I had a good time watching this season. Sadly it doesn't match the heights of the third season as I feel like it's kind of winding down. Those that have watched the previous seasons of the show will know what to expect with this show. Undoubtedly you will be watching this season no matter what if you've been keeping up with the show. I have to give this season a 7 out of 10. Hopefully season 5 is the last season and they'll be able to close this series with a bang.
